Numbers are nothing when your birds are falling from the sky on their own.
We lost 6-7 birds in last years while Vietnam and Venezuela has single digit.
Same goes with Uganda.
When mig-21 was brought into discussion everyone pointed out that its old plane and unreliable spare parts....
Now what reason people got for su30.
If this is the situation of Russian equipment whome we relied upon since 3 decades... we just jumped onto French birds. What can I expect them to deliver.

Sorry without numbers your assertion has no basis and you are without any cause mudslinging on professional who know their jobs better than you or me. Vietnam, Venezuela or Uganda do not have as many Sukhois as in India. And IAF trains HARD and in most difficult terrains. Vietnam/Malaysia gets its training from IAF. That should tell you about skillsets of IAF men.

The Himalayan terrain is daunting to conduct military flights, coupled with unpredictable weather. Given weather is playing havoc even in search and rescue operations, one does not know what kind of challenges/difficulties those two pilots and aircraft faced. Lets hope pilots are safe.

‘Make in India' in Indian Air Force kicks off
The 'Make in India' in Indian Air Force has been launched with an aim to promote Indigenous design and manufacturing for self-reliance in the Defence sector.

The event organized jointly by the Indian Air Force and the CII, is a part of the Defence Procurement Program (DPP) 2016 including IDDM and ‘Make’ category, Bureaucracy Today has learnt. It also focuses to enhance engagement of the Indian Air Force with private industry for local manufacturing.

Present at the occasion, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa stressed Indian industry’s effort on manufacturing indigenously designed helicopters and fighter planes.

On the other hand, Pratyush Kumar, Member, CII Defence Committee and President, Boeing India, focused on four pillars in taking the Make in India initiative to be more effective.

According to Kumar a roadmap for future needs to be framed with an aim to develop special skills to achieve Zero Defect in aerospace manufacturing. He also stressed on the scope of manufacturing regarding limiting to ‘Build to Print’ or move towards IDDM, along with creating tier III vendors for sourcing and provide hand holding to MSMEs.

I just wish those Pechoras were fully upgraded or better yet already replaced. That is one area where GOI and IAF dropped the ball a bit.

There are some interesting points. One could say it as conspiracy theory and I am too not denying it. But one can't simply go on and ignore these things.

Ummm... I've seen several alive and well - if ageing.
They are Officially retired from service but they can be used in case of emergency like IA is using their retired tanks as pillboxes at LoC

Yup, there was a RFI for 16 systems not for 16 aquadrons , to digitize the Pechora`s control unit, antenna post, subsystems of SAM launchers, tracking and coordinating systems, missile-command generating systems and launch-computing devices.
But I've no idea that what happened to it later. The RFI was floated near about a year ago.
