This is where you see IAF not a truly modern air force : no one operationnaly use classical non guided bombs in operation, specially risking a high asset jet as Su-30.
Sorry.
No, it only tells that IAF is suffering from the shortage of budget. They simply don't have enough money for Su-30's training with guided weapons.

It happened to Russians before too. In a drill with PLAAF, they were frustrated that Chinese shoot out more guided weapons in one drill than Russians in a whole year.

Certainly, things changed later once they got enough fund.

We all saw the mighty PLAAF when Pelosi landed in Taiwan - none of you even dared to tresspass the American column. Sit this one out, bud.

Defending your country when you couldn't even bear to live in it - a little sanctimonious, no?

Incredibly uninformed post, not expected from you.

A lot of pilots in modern air forces have their pilots maintain currency with all sorts of operational features of the jet, this includes utilizing and dropping unguided bombs.

French Air Force Rafale in operation, utilizing a GBU24 laser guided bomb. Might I remind you that the delivery mechanism and the kinetic range, for both laser guided bombs and dumb bombs the same?

USAF F-16 dropping BDU-33 units. The BDU-33 holds several dumb training bombs that are utilized to keep the pilots trained on the delivery mechanisms and the procedure.
No. unguided bom and LGB don't have the same enveloppe. A LGB can reach a target out of the initial trajectory line, not a unguided one. Even the range of a LGB is bigger, because of the main wings.

And I don't write about AASM (or Hammer), because it has a rocket engine so is in the middle of a guided bomb and a missile.

  • Its not operational, it is an air show. Last 2 times we dropped bombs on our enemies we used PGMs.
  • PGMs are costly, especially that we don't mass-manufacture any PGM kits.
  • What the Su-30MKI is doing is essentially carpet-bombing / wide-area bombing. I am yet to see even USAF using PGMs for carpet bombing.
OK for aero show, but not on operational duty.

Doing safari in Lybian airspace is one thing. Tell the last time France fought a near peer. He'll even Burkina Faso is standing up to you guys😁
OK.... what about the link between the fall of unguided bombs and the last war of France?

except that even there we used guided bombs (to reduce collateral damage for exemple).

No one is suggesting that a LGB has lesser range than a dumb bomb. What I am saying is that the delivery mechanism for a GBU24 is the same as the delivery mechanism for a FAB500 --both are released using the aircraft's computer and sent down into a ballistic trajectory.

Only in the last 20 or 30 seconds of the bomb's life does the GBU24 behave like a guided unit, and prior to that, it is exactly like a dumb bomb.

Your allusion of modern air forces not utilizing or training on techniques for releasing dumb bombs(through which laser guided bombs are also released!) makes you look wholly uninformed on matters like these, because they are used both in training(as I have linked above), and also operationally:

When was the last time you actually fought a near peer? For all our incompetence, India has Pakistan and China as its main adversaries.
Our last skirmish dates back to February 2018, we know a few things about precision bombing.
By the way unguided bombs are the flavour of the season ask the Russians with their FABs.

What on earth are you talking about??

An LGB is just a dumb bomb with a guidance kit attached and steerable surfaces, to allow for much more improved precision strikes. It doesn't have "main wings" as a mandatory requirement.

There are no additional wings added on. That is unique to a powered or glide bomb. e.g. the JDAM has no wings. The JDAM-ER does.

The Griffin and Lizard LGBs in the IAF are LGBs with a guidance seeker and steerable surfaces to allow for steering the LGB mid flight.

For 2 reasons :
They probably are out of stock on guided ones.
Because they don't care about civilian lost.

Sure, no main wings.....

Ah the famous conman answer, we use precise bombing to avoid civilian casualties. Then proceed the rocket and bomb the place ask afghan and Iraqis about the precise bombing. Drones lobs missiles at their weddings.
We fight in the desert and mountainous region so we have free hands with MLRS and free fall bombs.

Which LGB is this? And then, show me the main wings. I can only see steering surfaces and the LGB seeker.
His point about lack of utility of unguided bombs is wrong, or at least exaggerated. But he is right, guided bombs have much greater range than unguided bombs. The "control surfaces" are large enough that the bomb can stretch glide range a lot even without large wings that are common for proper glide bombs. Think of it as more of falling gracefully (continuously in stall) rather than gliding.
