The acquisitions planned by Air Force for the year 2020-21 include Airbus C295, MAFI Phase-II, Upgrade of UAV Systems, Project 'Cheetah', Digitisation of Pechora, LCA, LCH (LSP), Avionics Upgrade of IL-76, IL-78 and AWACS& Re-engining of IL-78 Aircraft, Harop (P-IV)

Just my opinion

1. Replace project cheetah with armed ruston or ghatak drone project.

2. Replace those AWACS with a330 indigenous
Ones.

3. Stop spending any money on the il series aircraft and save money for a new MTA possibly a collaboration with the Japanese for their C2 transporter.

Rather than PHALCON(IL-96) AWACS, go for more NETRA AEW&C ON EMB-145.
For the price of $900 million, one can get 7 NETRA AEW&C instead of 2 PHALCON AWACS.

A330 AWACS tech is not mature yet. Still atleast 4-5 years away.

Rather than PHALCON(IL-96) AWACS, go for more NETRA AEW&C ON EMB-145.
For the price of $900 million, one can get 7 NETRA AEW&C instead of 2 PHALCON AWACS.

The reason i didnt consider this option was because the company was blacklisted and netra has limited range and radar coverage.

We will sooner or later shift towards a bigger platform so why waste money on this any more when the budget is limited.

Italian firm TASS got blacklisted due to it being sister company to Augusta Westland.
We couldn't get BlackShark torpedoes on pur Scorpenes and have to make do with age old SUT torpedoes.

To VSJ: Don’t place too much hopes on Astra-2 & instead just wait in anticipation of the modified Meteor being made available by 2023.

The modified Meteor will not be ‘desi’, but will just incorporate some avionics & sensors that will make it only 20% ‘desi’. Why so? Simply because this is the only way of integrating the Meteor with the IAF’s MRCAs without violating the IPRs of Israel-based & Russia-based radar manufacturers, as I have already explained above. And just as India has inked military-technical/military-industrial IPR security agreements with countries like Russia, Israel, France & the US, a similar agreement will soon be inked with the UK for the modified Meteor BVRAAM project.

I don't get it. Can you give more context to what he is talking about?. If I remember correctly DRDO was pretty confident about Astramk2.

So far, DRDO has completed tge development only one product on time & its qrsam. So we need to wait and see kn mk2 astra

I seriously doubt about the credibility of this government, they said something and doing something else, they have promises a powerful military. AWACS, tankers & special mission EW aircrafts are force multipliers and ita pathetic that IAF is leasing one of kind for its operations. This government promised no deal with turkey, now they are going ahead with turkey on FSV deal.

We don't get any benefit even after buying hell lot of weapons from U.S.

TOT in most cast is just a marketing gimmick.
They don’t transfer anything valuable, just manufacturing knowhow.
We are doing this kind of TOT with Soviet Union and Russia since ages. While most of our LCA program was helped by EU and US. Wonder why?

US companies don’t operate in this way. They only outsource certain components and integrate OEMs in their supply chain. It’s their way of maintaining monopoly and control.
