IAF OPERATIONALISES AIR-LAUNCHED BRAHMOS CRUISE MISSILE IN MAJOR CAPABILITY MILESTONE
With longer reach and greater destructive potential than any anti-surface air weapon wielded by India, the 450-km range missile increases India's options for stand-off, cross-border targetting

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has inducted and operationalised the air-launched, extended range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

With a kill range of 450 km, this is the IAF's most potent air-launched anti-surface weapon, and its induction is a significant capability milestone.

The missile has been mated with select Sukhoi-30MKI fighters. An estimated 42 Su-30MKIs will be modified to wield the airborne BrahMos. The modified Sukhois will have the capability to carry only one BrahMos at a time as part of a weapons configuration which also includes four RVV AE (R-77) air-to-air medium range missiles, two R-73 air-to-air short range missiles and six 250 kg bombs.

"A few BrahMos-armed aircraft will be provided to all IAF Su-30MKI squadrons to wield this capability," an informed observer disclosed. Some will also be kept in reserve.

Analysts term the IAF BrahMos capability "phenomenal". This has a longer range and more destructive potential than any other air-to-surface weapon wielded by the IAF so far.

"The air-launched BrahMos has a strategic role. It is to destroy targets in depth which have strategic value and compromise the war waging capability of an adversary," remarked Air Marshal BK Pandey (Retired), a former Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the IAF's Training Command. The strategic targets in depth could be major military bases, ammunition dumps and vital installations. "With its range, the IAF can launch this weapon from its own airspace," Air Marshal Pandey said, pointing out the enhanced stand-off attack capability against a persistent adversary.

The availability of this weapon increases India military options for launching surprise precision cross-border attacks from a stand-off range.

This will also beef up India's anti-ship capability in a maritime role, and enable quick reaction against an enemy warship up to 1,400 km from India's coastline.

Its 2.8 Mach supersonic speed and terrain-hugging flight mode also makes it improbable to intercept. "In recently-concluded user trials, this missile has shown itself to be very spectacular, very accurate," a senior IAF officer told SP's Aviation.

India's co-option as a full member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) has enabled the increase in the range of the BrahMos from 290 km to 450 km.

How is that even possible with only two tests conducted?

I don’t remember any official word from IAF on this..

"Sitaras" are no where near flight certification.
I would love to see Tejas replacing the Hawks.
the fighter looks like the tip of an arrow...red arrows wont mind sayimg their name because I believe the team is Indian and will keep it only India specific. That is why I was specifying the HJT-36 as a SKAT aircraft. Oh and the name of the HJT-36 too because it is pakistan oriented. Changing that to India specific is possible today as we have a 100% India specific government.

भारत की शान, लड़ाकू विमान तेजस को पहले की सरकार डिब्बे में बंद करने जा रही थी।

आज वही विमान वायुसेना और नौसेना में सेवा देने के लिए तैयार है: पीएम

Old airforce officers who rejected it what they have to say now. :pound:

Modi government kicked asses of import loving top brass.

IAF tested BrahMos Surface to surface missile ,kind of weird but this regular testing of BrahMos sure tell us about the production rates are satisfactory

PIB report said IAF already had a BrahMos since 2014 in mobile platforms ,I think they also have other strategic missiles too

Future warfare.

Cyber capabilities and electronic warfare are silently heating up the race for developing offensive and defensive capabilities. China is using these very effective and low-cost solutions to counter the increased presence of the United States Navy in the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea. In 2017, four US naval warships collided with civilian ships killing 17 sailors. In January 2017, the USS Antietam ran aground near Yosuka, Japan. Next was the cruiser USS Champlain, that collided with that collided with a South Korean shipping boat. Navy personnel had spotted the South Korean shipping boat, but could not contact it because the boat had no radio or GPS! On June 17, 2017, the USS Fitzgerald hit a Philipino container, killing seven sailors. Finally, USS Destroyer John McCain collided with a merchant vessel killing ten sailors. The collision left a gaping hole in the hull of the Destroyer.

International cyber security experts refuse to see coincidence or human error in these four incidents that occurred in or around the hyperactive Malacca Strait or the South China Sea area. They suspect a cyber/electronic attack behind these collisions, especially after the fourth collision. Commercial maritime tracking data, that is used to monitor ship movement
showed that a Chinese vessel was shadowing the merchant vessel that hit the USS John McCain. The Chinese vessel veered away shortly before the collision. This increased the US Navy investigators’ suspicions of a possible Chinese electronic attack

May 2017, just a month prior to the India-China Doklam stand-off, an IAF Su-30MKI took off from the IAF base at Tejpur and crashed near the Indo-China border. One of the suspected reasons for the crash was cyber interference with onboard computers. Perhaps that is why both the pilots could not activate the safe ejection system, though one of the pilots was an experienced Squadron Leader. And then in December 2017, we lost a drone in the Doklam area. It was on a routine flying mission and crashed into Chinese territory. India cited technical issues with the flying machine but China claimed that India was punished for not behaving properly

Conspiracy theory at its best.

I believe It had a greater range they were hiding it.

Now they came out in open if the article is correct.

Chill we have a beast now in waiting for some fried porks. :daru:

It now looks more like some stupid journo misinterpreted recent Brahmos tests by IAF as ALCM and clocked up a story about ALCM.

Journos not so bright people anyways..
