GOOD NEWS -
Yup, weight is near to 2 tons and pylon strengthen for upto 2.5ton.2.5 tons? Some people were claiming that it was 1.5 tons, Next Generation missile!
The original brahmos weighed 3tons. We also have to consider the fact that the plane can be already moving in 1Mach+ speed and hence impart initial momentum to it.
I would say that it is a poor weapon to be used in aircrafts. Hopefully, Nirbhay missile can be adopted into airborne missile at much lower weight for same range and hence usable in lighter aircrafts like Tejas
USA JASSM is 1000kg missile with 1000km range. It can be miniaturised further for 400km range and smaller warhead. Since, Tejas can carry a fuel tank of 1ton weight under the fuselage. It could instead carry a cruise missile there.Yup, weight is near to 2 tons and pylon strengthen for upto 2.5ton.
Because it is already launched at 1 Mach it requires low time triggered booster which also drop down the fuel capacity because the most %age of fuel is used up in booster phase.
As far as I know, present BrahMos-A ALCM can be uprated for 600+ km range with 3 Mach speed will give a cutting edge over enemy having sophisticated AIR DEFENCE. anyways BrahMos-NG will have 3mach speed with max range of 300km and have weight nearly 1ton.
Nirbhay is subsonic hence is easier to shot down with AD missile but there is a plan for Nirbhay ALCM but can't be in the weight range to use it on LCA.
Presently, there are no plans to install such long range missiles for LCA as it is not made to perform that combat profile.USA JASSM is 1000kg missile with 1000km range. For land attack profile,You can expect the same use as the use of SCALP.Good
now I am still earning the same
after this test I am not getting any pay hike.
What's the use? huh!!
Big time. Brahmos is bulky, overweight missile with low range. We need better missile. Weight must be under 1tonDo we still need now stand-off missiles after this ?
ObviouslyDo we still need now stand-off missiles after this ?
We do. Brahmos is a very heavy, expensive, highly specialized weapon carried only by MKI. Primary role of Brahmos armed MKI will be A2/AD in IOR.Do we still need now stand-off missiles after this ?
There is no short and swift. Only a fool assumes things. Either you are sure or you are not. How do you know that Enemy won't retaliate with full force instead of accepting defeat? Why would you think that the war won't escalate? We do. Brahmos is a very heavy, expensive, highly specialized weapon carried only by MKI. Primary role of Brahmos armed MKI will be A2/AD in IOR.
IAF identified 5000 targets in Pakistan alone. We need cheaper yet capable alternatives to strike these targets.
One more thing that always baffled me was the lack of a short/medium range standoff cruise missile in IA. Surface to surface land attack equivalent of let's say Exocet or RBS-15. Vast majority of Paki air bases /formations/garrisons/population centres are within 200-250 km from the border.
If you are looking for a short and swift limited war against an enemy with limited air defence, a cheap standoff missile could do wonders.
Dude read through the forums first. Much of the Brahmos' range and capabilities were there from the start. The govt kept it under wraps to show that we were conforming to MTCR rulesIndia signed MTCR on 27 june 2016, and Bramhos was flight tested by IAF before that on 25 June 2016, now its range suddenly increased to 400.. how ? It was in development since 2009, with software integration delaying its launch since 2014 ? How its range increased suddenly ?
