India signed MTCR on 27 june 2016, and Bramhos was flight tested by IAF before that on 25 June 2016, now its range suddenly increased to 400.. how ? It was in development since 2009, with software integration delaying its launch since 2014 ? How its range increased suddenly ?
It was always longer ranged than the 290km, same as it's surface and sub-surface launched variants. Both India and Russia officially maintained the facade of MTCR complaint Brahmos for years with only a leaked presentation that told the truth that Brahmos has a range of over 400 km in its natural form.

Same is for air launched variant. Only time will tell.

Trainer aircraft crashes in Telangana, woman pilot safe

Kiran aircraft crash site

New Delhi: A Kiran trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed shortly after taking off from the Hakimpet Air Force Station in Hyderabad on Friday. The woman pilot on board ejected safely before the crash and is reported to be safe. The IAF has initiated a court of inquiry.

She was rushed to nearby hospital by the locals and is undergoing treatment.

News agency ANI reported that the woman cadet was undergoing fighter training. She was attempting a landing when the incident took place.

Eyewitnesses told Times Now that the woman pilot asked for a mobile phone and informed the authorities about the incident. The aircraft was engulfed in fire. The locals called for an ambulance.

This is the second such incident within a month. Last month, a Kiran aircraft crashed in a similar manner. Authorities had cited technical problem as the reason behind the crash.

The cause of the present crash remains to be detected. An official statement is awaited from the authorities.

Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa on Thursday (16 November) rebutted charges of overpricing in the Rafale deal for purchase of 36 French fighter aircraft.

Dashing Rahul Gandhi’s hope of stirring up a controversy in view of the upcoming assembly polls in Gujarat, he categorically said that there was "no overpricing" in the purchase of the fighter jets from France and that the government had "negotiated a very good" deal for these 36 aircraft.

"It is not overpricing... We have negotiated for 36 French fighter aircraft Rafale (at a price) lower than that in the contract. The government has negotiated a very good deal," Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa said.

It was under a "government-to-government contract" that the deal for 36 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) was negotiated.

"It is definitely a better deal. It is lower than what was there in the MRMCA contract," he said without going into specifics.

The Rafale deal has been the focus of debate with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accusing the Prime Minister of changing the "entire deal" to benefit a businessman, a charge debunked by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Congress also claims technology is not being transferred to India under the deal.

Dhanoa said the aircraft had been purchased in a fly-away condition as an emergency measure.

"We are getting 50 per cent offset," he said, without elaborating.

On technology transfer, he said, "Technology may not be going to the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) but it is coming to the Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO) and then to a lot of Indians".

The Indian Air Force (IAF) chief said a plan was in place to deal with the "drop-down" – or dip – in the IAF squadron numbers.

He said the government had ordered two squadrons of Su-30MKI.

"The drop-down will be made up by two Rafale, two Su 30, two LCA squadrons and 80 more aircraft which will give four more squadrons," he said.

While the government has authorised 42 squadrons, the IAF at present has just 33.

He, however, added that the drop-down did not affect the performance of the force.

"It does not mean that we cannot carry out operations. We can do restricted operations. For carrying out full-spectrum operations the IAF needs a certain amount of force," he said.

"There was an order of 272 aircraft and once again we were 35 short by March 2017," he said.

Dhanoa said a contract was signed in March 2006 for 20 Tejas aircraft to be delivered between April 2009 and December 2010.

"Out of these 20 aircraft, only five were received ... Again a contract was signed in December 2010 for 20 more aircraft to be delivered between June 2014 and December 2016. So we have already committed to 40 aircraft in addition to 83 more Tejas," he said.

He said the IAF would induct Mark 2 fighters with higher thrust engines and new weapons by 2027.

Shortcomings in Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 1 will be removed in the LCA Mark 1A aircraft, and then Mark 2 will be manufactured, he said.

"Gradually we will make advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, moving from low medium to high technology aircraft," he said.

This order for 2 squadrons of Su-30MKI is it pending deliveries from 272 ordered or is it additional 2 Sq.
Anyone has any information ?
I think India totally order 314 SU-30 MKI for it's air force. But i do not know if it is confirmed.

So is the IAF formally committing to LCA MK2? This seems to be the first definitive statement from the IAF that they WILL go for LCA MK2 by 2027.

Presently, IAF is committed to mk1a but still they didn't release ASQR for it and contract is far ahead scenario.

As, I explained about LCA few days ago, that LCA may touch 250 orders from LCA.

Present update is :
IAF want to have all 123 LCAs and the almost 126 Rafale ( as they demand for Rafale LCA combo) to reach 42 active squadrons.
Here I can say that, IAF is firmly committed to 3 squadrons for Mk-2 (3x21=63),
Conditions: 1. If Mk-2 failed to achieve its timeline than IAF might order more mk1a.
2. If Mk-2 perform much better than their hopes than more tha 63 orders ahead.

IAF banks on LCA, new fighter to bolster fleet

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking at the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas and the soon-to-be-procured single-engine fighter jet to arrest a dramatic fall in its squadron strength as the deal for 36 Rafale jets lands in the middle of political maelstrom. “The rate of decommissioning is way higher than the planned and even proposed inductions. Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is a good aircraft and 123 LCAs will be inducted in the force as planned. But the numbers are not coming fast enough and the requirement is much beyond that in other categories,” a Defence Ministry source said.

The IAF has a sanctioned strength of 42 squadrons and a projected requirement of 45 to face the anticipated threat of a two-front war. As on date the IAF has 33 squadrons and by the end of next month it will be down to 31 squadrons.

With the planned induction of 36 Rafales between 2019 and 2022, the remaining Sukhoi-30MKIs and some LCAs (Tejas) the strength will hover at 30 till 2027 and in the subsequent five-year term will fall to 27 squadrons. If there are no newer inductions it will slide further to 19 squadrons by 2042.

“IAF is upgrading most of the aircraft in its inventory. But from 2025 onwards most of those aircraft such as the Jaguars and the MiG-29s will start going out,” the source said.

In a month, the IAF is expected to issue the Request for Information (RFI) for over a 100 single-engine fighter aircraft under the Strategic Partnership model. Lockheed F-16 and Saab Gripen are in the race for the order and have already tied up with Tata and Adani, respectively, to build the jets locally with technology transfer.

The IAF has placed orders for 40 jets in two batches of which the first 20 are in the Initial Operational Configuration (IOC) while the remaining 20 are in the Final Operational Configuration (FOC).

‘Sukhoi plant can roll out 5th-gen fighter jet’

The state-of-the-art facility of the Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, which manufactures Sukhoi fighter jets, can be used to build the fifth-generation fighter aircraft if the government decides to go ahead with the proposed Indo-Russian joint venture, T Suvarna Raju, the chief of the aerospace behemoth, has said.

PS - The above article has unnecessary presstitution like saying that by 2042,number of squadrons will come down to 19!

The way I see it, by 2024, minimum number of aircrafts in Indian airforce will be -

SU30 - 272
Rafale - 36
Tejas - 123
Jaguar - 145
MiG29 - 78
Mirage 2000 - 50

Total - 704 aircrafts.

If squadrons has 18 planes, we have 39 squadrons, if 19 planes, 37 squadrons and if 20 planes, 35 squadrons. We can subtract 5-6% of the planes for trainers and hwnce subtract 1-2 squadrons from the above figures to get the minimum number of squadrons by bytes 2024.

I have here assumed that all MiG21, MiG 27 to be retired by 2024

In addition, there is bound to be higher defence budget, additional Rafale orders and Tejas Mk2 roll out with IOC by then and hence more Tejas orders.

As mentioned in part 2 video, is India working on getting in the grid to identify the friendly or enemy aircraft in case we have to fight in coalition and we don't shoot friendly aircrafts.

Also as Americans discovered weakness in Su30s or mig29 as the speaker was mentioning, did we discover weaknesses in F16 or raptor during joint exercises?
