IAF to finalise combat plane deal in two weeks

Jan 17, 2012

New Delhi: The winner of the multi-billion dollar deal to procure 126 combat planes for Indian Air Force is expected to be announced in two weeks time, the IAF Chief said in New Delhi on Tuesday.

European EADS Eurofighter and Dasault Rafale are in the final race for Air Force's global tender to procure 126 Medium-Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA).

"Right now we have to do the selection for who is going to be the shortlisted vendor. I am hopeful that in another two weeks time, we will be able to shortlist the name," Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne said on sidelines of a NCC function in New Delhi.

Asked whether IAF will try to finalise the deal early as the financial year is coming to a close in March, he said, "The financial year does not have any bearing on that."

On commercial negotiations with the selected vendor, he said, "Once we shortlist that (vendor), then the commercial negotiations will start with the vendor."
As per the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP), the lowest bidder is considered to be the winner of the contract.

The two European firms were competing with American companies Lockheed Martin and Boeing, Russian MiG corporation and Swedish Saab, for the tender.

On November 4, 2011, the Defence Ministry had opened the commercial bid of the two firms left in the race and since then has been busy in determining the lowest bidder.

The Eurofighter bid is backed by four partner nations including Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom while the Dasault Rafale is backed by the French government.

Well a "shortlisted vendor" means a single vendor - although for GoI bureaucrats, it can mean anything between 0, 1 and 2.
You know that most Indians pride themselves for inventing the "zero" - so, the number is VERY important for GoI ....

In terms of what they achieve, how many vendors they selct, how many MMRCA are actually bought .... think Indian - think zero!!

:D

i went to goa...stayed there for 10 days...came back...and mmrca is where it was...i shud have died of drugs overdose
next go for longer trips, probably for a month. but MMRCA will still at the same place. MoD is busy in finalising the L1. they are in the last but critical step in determining that after taking all the bribes and loots , who can still be the L1. no wonder price tag has gone so high.

24 JANUARY D DAY for MMRCA ?

24 JANUARY D- DAY for MMRCA ?
.
.
If sources are to be believed MMRCA winner will be announced just few days before 26 January Republic Day , while some media Sources are putting that day has 24 January 2012 ,
has the day when worlds single largest order will be declared . Recently they were some rumors which idrw.org along with some reputed news agencies reported that Eurofigther might have won the MMRCA competition , while it seems some one has stepped in and the MMRCA Rumors and the mouth spreading them have told to shut up . Whole Rumors surrounding Eurofigther has died down and no source wants to talk about it now it seems . is it silent before a TYPHOON ?? well we are not sure and with just few days left for the supposed D Day , we will hold for a official confirmation now .

Dates are of no use. Neither GoI nor IAF has ever released a definite date for the announcement of results.

Shiv of livefist in his blog predicts the announcement could be before 26 th

The sense I get is the government has until Republic Day (Jan 26) to declare the lowest bidder -- if it wants to, that is. After that, the country enters a phase of an elaborate series of crucial state elections that bring with them their own political sensitivities and code of conduct guidelines. The sense I get, therefore, is that if the government intends to make an announcement this month, it has to be in the next 10-odd days. Otherwise, it could drift for months as the establishment's mind gets diverted. As always, stay tuned.

Borissov to Discuss Eurofighter Deal in Berlin

German Federal Chancellery has put on the agenda of today's meeting between Bulgarian PM Boyko Borissov and German Chancellor Angela Merkel the deal for used Eurofighter aircrafts, The Standart learnt. PM Borissov left on a two-day visit to Berlin. He will have official dinner with Chancellor Angela Merkel. One of the main issues to be discussed during the talks is the troubled loan of Bulgarian Railways for new Siemens electric trains.

Sofia has prepared three negotiation variants. The first one envisages talks on Deutsche Bahn buying BDZ Cargo Transport instead of German National Bank taking the Desiro Siemens trains. The other negotiation variants are that the liabilities on the purchase of the fifty carriages could be met either on funds from the future privatization of Cargo Transport or on loans from the World Bank.

But wouldn't the profit go to MBDA shareholders?
What profit? The company doesn't even release an earnings statement. The real money is in the VAT which goes to the government that makes the product.

What alternative missile could be chosen instead of MICA? This purchase looks like a forgone conclusion as there isn't an alternative for the Mirage.
Derby would be an inferior alternative
