Back in the day when the US supported Tibetans & using India as a staging ground launched attacks by trained Tibetan partisans against the Han in Tibet , they weren't supporting the Khalistan movement although around that time it must be said there was no Khalistan movement but the Punjab Subah movement while in the NE , Nehru & his ex Christian missionary friend Verrier Elwin banned Hindu groups like the Ramkrishna Mission , Arya Samaj in the NE while giving Christian missionary groups especially those based out of the US a free hand to operate in the NE.

This is not so simple.
Previously, our markets were closed to them, and there was no need to improve relations with us since there was nothing to gain. Now, with trade opportunities and some alignment of our interests with China the situation has changed.

Also, aren't we behaving in the same way? USSR/Russians backed us many times in UN and used veto for us but when they need us we just walk away from the voting. Where is the open support for Russia?
