Yeah but he came from a time in which genrols actually take military matters seriously
that what my late uncle said about his british officers in ww2( in 90s). This is a common comment heard in every decade.

He was a war time General.
And even after the so called “war” he made sure to stay one step ahead of the pakis throughout 2000 by issuing nonstop raids on paki posts which saw many pakis returning in body bags to their houses

I can compare the actions of the Indian army in early 90s/late 90s and the Indian army now and come to this conclusion. Barring Rawat and Navarane (who were CDS and COAS respectively).
Kargil war was the result of failure of military intelligence.. Also, we were running around like crazy for artillery shells..Not only Malik's fault.. but he can't avoid the blame..
Was a failure of intelligible entirely and also largely political, it was pure backstabbing on the Pakistani side as they attacked at a time after Vajpayee visited Lahore. No one expected it. Not even the Pakistani government knew about it, let alone RAW.

Anywho, regardless, Kargil War saw taking of several enemy posts across the LoC, and the period after that saw numerous raids against Pakistani posts and launch pads. Always being proactive instead of reactive after Kargil

Meanwhile compare the way arnyvhandled 2016-2018 before Gen Rawat and you’ll know everything you need to know.

If India wants to gain a tactical advantage against China, it’s going to have to do what it did with Pak from late 90s-early 00s. Constant raids, salami slicing, and destroying key infrastructure on their side
What if China escalates it to full scale war? How would India fight it ?

Chinese have fired the first shot post Xi-Modi handshake in South Africa. My guess is that the handshake did not go right according to the Chinese plan. Those military men‘s extended discussions just before Xi and Modi run into each other, were not going right on Depsang and Demchok resolution. Hence by publishing a new map, Xi has let it be known that China is not prepared to yield. All hopes for resolution are dashed.

Is it India's harsh reaction to China's Standard map trial balloon [to show who is the boss] the reason ? Or is it that Modi didn't offer enough concession on LAC standoff, for King Xi to warrant a visit..

Most probable reason IMO is a fear of public humiliation. Skipping the G20 events does not bode well for either China or Russia. India will certainly follow up on this precedence.

Threaten with a Nuke strike on Peking
It's not a credible threat.
So,
1. INDIA starts to do some salami slicing and killing of Chinese soldiers..
2. In retaliation China expands the conflict..
3. And then, India threatens to nuke Beijing.. Really? And China would just fold.. :bplease:

Why do you even need a conventional army then?
What if conventional warfighting continues to happen even after nuclear use.. Many have impression that just uttering the word nuclear, will make all their childhood demons go away.. And there would be no war.. :) But, nuking Beijjng at the outset, might turn a border war into a war of Annihilation.. Why would India risk it so early in any war against China..
