Yep, Gurkhas are mercenaries. It's just as simple as that. They have no inherent sense of loyalty. One must also remember that the substantial part of Dyer's forces during the Jalianwala Bhagh incident were also Gurkha. Of course that was 100+ years ago but still they've always run to whoever throws more money at them.

Gorkha units are present in British Army, French Army. It's natural for them.

Ya'll Nibbiars there are almost 40 lakhs Gurkhas in India and if mixed with other non Gurkha in the areas the full strengths of all the Gurkha regiments can be maintained just from the recruitment of the Indian Gurkhas, but the agniveer 4 years scheme will make it difficult. Unless it was the previous 15 years one. At this rate the 7 Gurkha regiment will to be reduced probably at this rate.

‘Tawang, the birth place of current Dalai Lama and very likely the next Dalai Lama will come from there. Hence, Chinese wish to capture and eliminate that possibility.
