China offers a new normal to end Ladakh border standoff. India shoots it down
no new normal, status quo ante is a must, hopefully we hold our ground. The audacity in them to ask for a new normal( if not ask at least imply) shows that they take us for granted.

I don’t think we did ? But I know some of the neighbors had built one for their families . Kennedy after Cuban missile crisis urged Americans to do this.
In some of the cities where I lived, the older schools (especially big High Schools) had basements which were supposed to double as shelters if a bomb was ever dropped.

intersting question? I am not an expert but I know there are many in India. If it is deep enough and you don’t drown it should be the same concept.
My home well is some 52 feet deep and has water on 25 feet from top, if a sufficiently thick lid is used perhaps it might work as a temporary shelter I guess 🤔😷 I have heard that 10 feet thick concrete is good enough to stop radiation to a bearable limit.

Can a water well with a lid be used as fallout shelter temporarily ?
For how many people, whats the expected duration of "temporarily"? You'll run out of breathable air and probably suffocate to death, if you stay there for a long time. If you are going to use that, then probably a few hours, depending on the number of people. The number of hours you can spend in hole will be inversely proportional to the number of people you have.

Just for few family members, for some hours. Depleting oxygen level is really a problem there. But what else a common Indian can do ?

If we think on that line and do some research we could save our civilization from MAD on cheap, since every 2nd house has a well in villages and small towns in India.

Unless you live in a major Indian metropolis within range of Paki nukes/somewhat close to Pak, I doubt you really have to worry about nukes.

The best one can do is hide in a basement (if a basement is there). Most basements in India are unsuitable as shelters as these have large windows and air vents. Otherwise not much you can do except crawl under a wooden bed and use face masks.

Get wooden beds made (called 'takht' in Hindi). And buy gas masks or welder masks.

Decorative beds and box beds do not work well. You can crawl under a wooden table as well but not a comfortable situation if you have to sleep there.

You can convert one room of your house to a panic room by boarding up windows and installing heavy doors which lock securely. Although this idea is also difficult in India as we have large windows with ventilators. Small windows are easier to board up.

Next idea is to move to countryside in case of war. It is very likely that war will be protracted this time. One year is minimum. So you may need a countryside home to survive.

In my home all beds are box beds. There is no table large enough to hide. All windows are very large. And my house is right in the middle of action.

Unfortunately India is totally unprepared for nuclear war.
