China wants Balochistan for its rich minerals, natural resources and gas deposits.

Securing CPEC is mere posturing and a ruse, the real intent is something else.

The deal with Iran is purely to put a lid on our activities in Balcochistan and secure their interests, hence promising investments in Iran.

Even Mao's stomach churns at the thought of what awaits PLA in Balochistan should they dare put their boots on the ground.
Securing CPEC is about securing huge investment as also securing future of China. It about maintaining and supplying their Xinjiang and Tibet which on the day is required to be supplied over 300km from the mainland. Imagine a oil tanker first travelling all the way to Eastern shore of China and then oil being brought from there all the way to Kashgar right across Pakistan border.. Imagine India is able to supply oil to Tripur via Chittagong rather than going all the way from Baruani to Guwahati and then to Agartala. Do not underestimate CPEC.

Iran is an attempt to ensure the energy security of oil-hungry China. If American fights two major wars in Gulf region to secure oil, why not China spend some money out of its huge reserves ??

what u said is right but their interests do conflict with our when it comes to military hardware and sharing a equal partnership.... typically, US is like class monitor while our stand is of a mutual relationship... and that's the only problem i see with uncle sam.... U can't have a un equal marriage..

If we are thinking that US is doing us a favor than i had like to call that bluff, specifically point no 3, they have done that for good 4-5 decades and now that porks are not falling in their line, they are trying to align with us to save their ass from china...

fact is US is trying to promote us and keep us in good books since it sees us as a counter to china... else bat muchers will start breathing down their neck in their own back yard..
On one hand you have a school monitor that wants few favours in return for a few favors..
On other hand you have a bully that wants to beat you, eat your lunch, take your money and sell your clothes..

Take your pick

i won't pick both willingly...... may be i will be favourable to class monitor but on my own terms.......I have the capabilities to handle bully and twist him if need be......

Point is ours is a independent policy and by allowing uncle SAM to manipulate it we will loose our hard earned freedom...

Loss of business profits is the real weakness of China. Just a few days back I saw several articles in newspapers paid for by the Chinese saying that most conflict areas have been resolved, when in reality the ones that matter like DBO are actually massing more troops. This may be to get India to lower its guard, but I believe it's because the Chinese fear the loss of business profits in India. If India wants the Chinese soldiers to move away from the border, it should start banning Chinese electronics and then eventually move to ban all Chinese imports in a step by step manner. I know this is not easy, but the Indian business community will have to adjust eventually anyways to live without Chinese imports, given the threat that they pose.

"Hard earned freedom"

I think 1947 is now ancient history. A lot has changed since.

"independent policy"

Not possible in the current world.

We are exactly doing that right now .... unless u prove otherwise ...i will held on to my judgement..
We are buying a lot of 'critical' items from USA now. In your mind a Rafale may be more important that a P8i. But P8i will have a greater impact in real life. While we can get a Rafale from several sources, a P8i is only available from USA.

Situation has changed.

Many weapons we are getting from Israel and USA will prove to be game changers.

This happened because GOI definitely let go of some of its 'independent policy'.

About bloody time. The Europeans except for the UK and France have treated their defence as only the problem of the US, in spite of being rich. The Germans and the Scandinavian countries are among the worst. Trump may get a lot of bad press on this but it’s mostly motivated because these countries like the gravy train they are on and don’t want to see it disturbed. All of them pledged to spend 2% on defence and most of them have absolutely no intention of doing it.

Not really... I beg to differ...While we might need those planes.. US was equally desperate to sell them to keep their factories running ... As i said earlier.. it's equal opportunities partnership that we are after.... US is doing us no favor if they are equipping us with those planes and we did paid them top dollars for those planes..... they know that we need them to contain bat munchers.. and only we can contain them ...so they too have a interest there since we are indirectly helping them by containing china away from US shores...

It's not as simple we are trying to make it out.....there are lots of variable factor at play... saying that we will be good in US or Chinese camp is a hog wash...

I think you live in an ideal world.

Once you become dependent on somebody, that dependence is very hard to reverse. In fact it keeps on growing. Look at Pakistan/China relationship.

Defence is a closed bazaar even if it is one. You do not have a pass to buy the latest and greatest stuff until you represent some long term value for the seller.

One of the reasons China might back off for now is the weather. There's already catastrophic flooding in Southern China. Looks like from next week, there will be huge rainfall that threatens PLA with mountain torrents in Tibet and Xinjiang.

I live too far away from Ideal world...LOL

I am surprised that u r comparing Pak / china and us... Both are parasites .. each one thinking he is eating other one and vice versa.

Now that you have talked of dependence ...is exactly the reason we are not buying any weapon platforms with offensive capabilities from US and only buying passive platforms like P8 or C17's from them ... U know the beauty of this world is that u always have a alternate available...

Last point, US do see us a long term value provider with that counter to china ... and is the reason its keen to sell us only those stuff which he think is necessary for us to counter china...

There are no friends between countries,

There is only over-lapping interests BUT over time people to people interactions make the countries "feel" like friends, which results in any problems arising to be resolved with ease, politically.

Keeping that in view, India being a democracy, having more people to people interaction with US than any other nation - can view US as a "friend". Not because they are friends but because interests overlap. Lot of Indians work there, happily & have become a source of soft power.

in contrast, what is our relation with China?
I can show 10 things that are common between India & US
Can anyone tell one thing that we have in common with Chinese? these guys have shunned their culture & roots to become commies.

Now on other spectrum is China, Pak relationship.
These two are not friends.
It's a master-slave relationship.
They have nothing in common. China is the sugar daddy & pakis will be the boot-lickers..

I repeat. comparing China & US vis a vis our priority is pedantic at this point.

We expect US to give us high end critical military hard-ware with nothing to show to them in return. That's just silly.

Or they may open new fronts, such as Chumbi, Doklam, Tawang, or even get Pakistan to do something. They know that even our military has limited headroom in the Northeast thanks to the weather there.

While we're preparing on all fronts, we must never dial down our proxy-warfare. The battle against Oli must rage on.

Right now weather is fucking China from all sides, even mythologically.

Apparently there's a saying in China that when there's great injustice in the land by the Emperor, snow will fall in June.

Guess what? Snow fell in Beijing in middle of summer. Currently, according to Chinese lunar calendar it is June in China.

People have started to grumble about the "Emperor".
