ALMORA: Following a site visit, a delegation of senior Indian Air Force (IAF) officials gave its go-ahead to the construction of the Chaukhutia airport along the India-China border. On Thursday, Air Vice-Marshal Alok Sharma along with senior IAF officials took stock of the selected site and checked helicopter and flight landing status at the site. After inspection, it was decided that the airport should be developed in an area of 50 hectares against the earlier decided 43 hectares. The airstrip is expected to be 2.5 kilometres long and 200 metres wide.

Although the construction of the Indian and Chinese ships overlaps, in many respects the Indian carrier is a generation newer in design. Design of Vikrant started in 1999 while the Chinese ships are rooted in 1970s Soviet technology. Vikrant was launched in August 2013 and has been fitting out in Kochi since then.

The Chinese ships however are essentially Soviet designed Admiral Kuznetsov class ships. Liaoning in fact was laid down in 1985 and only sold to China, ostensibly for scrap, in 1998. She entered service in 2012. Shandong was built to the same overall design (with some modifications) and entered service in 2019.

The differences are most telling under the deck however. The Chinese ships use traditional steam turbines while Vikrant uses a more modern gas turbine arrangement.

Both Liaoning and Shandong are already operational however. While China’s experience in aircraft carrier operations is much younger than India’s, it is now more than 8 years since Liaoning was commissioned. She is currently exercising off Qingdao in the Yellow Sea

There is no need for sanctions on Pakistan.
The nation has no relations whatsoever with the rest of the world (barring China), that they have to send their PM to get few grains of rice.

The US will probably wait till Pakistani develop into something useful (may not happen) to sanction them.

Sanctioning them now will be asking a bankrupt guy with tons of debt and no money in pocket, to pay 10 million dollars.

China rotates 90 per cent troops deployed along Ladakh sector on India border

New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): It seems that Chinese troops deployed opposite the Eastern Ladakh sector have been badly affected by the extreme cold conditions in the area as the People's Liberation Army has rotated 90 per cent of its manpower and brought in fresh soldiers from the hinterland.

The reason for this rotation may be that the Chinese troops deployed in the extreme conditions in the high latitude areas have been severely affected by the extreme conditions faced in high latitude, extreme cold and other related issues, they said.

Even during the the deployment in friction points in Pangong lake area, Chinese troops were getting rotated on almost daily basis at high altitude posts and their movement had become very restricted, the sources said.

The Indian Army deploys its troops in the high altitude areas for a two year tenure and around 40-50 per cent troops get rotated every year. The tenures of ITBP soldiers in these conditions are sometimes much longer than two years.
