It's more than that. Current us administration ( Biden democratic gang) don't really want to take on china as their doners ( billionaires like Bloomberg , companies like apple ) have heavy investments into china. They are all sold out already. Hence Russia is a ruse to distract American public while china remain in shadows .

The objective of US foreign policy is to maintain Primacy on a global level.. Right now, both Russia and China challenge that primacy.. Ganging up on Russia is a low cost option as Russia and US economies are decoupled..
To truly contain China, the US would have to decouple its economy from China.. China's geography is truly fu*ked up with the first and second island chains hemming it in.. It would not be a big task for the US navy to cut off all china trade.. But, the problem is with the crippling import dependence on China, the blockade will end up hurting the US economy more than China in the short term.. that's why the Chink f*gs are so aggressive.. They know that the US cannot afford any serious containment of China...Will US summon the will and the sacrifices necessary to decouple from China, atleast in critical sectors like medical equipment, pharma raw materials, electronics, rare earths.. etc..? It does not look likely, because, that would require a mass mobilization never seen in America since world War 2.. and would require a buy in from the American populace, to forego all the cheap Chinese sh*t

chinese can release a pandemic and kill hundreds of thousands of people and nobody can do anything to them , so all these things are pipe dreams . US is a declining power and Chinese are taking the top spot.

by the time usa decouples from china or gets it bearings,the political situation and other social issues in the us will get so bad that it will rob it of the political capital and money required to deal with china and prevent a multipole world from arising.

basically,rime and momentum is not on its side,so i dont understand usa's short term thinking foreign policy.

they will need a major overhaul of internal politics,social narratives,finances,weapons development and commission(mainly ships as china's ship nos are growing rapidly),etc soon and without any delay if they want to even dream of keeping their primacy.frankly i dont know if they have it in them.

I think most of the us allies are not very serious about this "Ally" thing anymore. Trump fucked it first & biden is dumping them now. You can look at the saudis for example & some european countries are also not very serious about this, they are now building their own defenses

India never intended to depart from any old alliance... We never aligned with anyone. US is heavily trying to dump our non alignment policy and align us to use as a buffer to fight china. We're trying to build indegeneos MIC.
We reduced russian weapons import because they have no modern effective weapons. The domain they have we're in JV or trying to work/ import submarines/ super Sukhoi program/ space programs . US is a two side sword can cut you anytime.
