Depends on how they time it if russia and china move at the same time russia in Crimea and china in myanmar they can cause absolute chaos as US is not primed to deal with two powers at once.

contrary to the popular belief US cant do much except sanction them. Sanctioning them also pushes them deeper into the arms of China who is already their largest trading partner.

Russia has become quite resilient to sanctions it will hurt them surely but nothing they cannot handle.

US cannot allow Ukraine to join Nato as one of the clauses clearly states that countries in civil war cannot join nato and the EU is simply not interested in a new cold war when they are dealing with a slumping economy and covid at home.

so in conclusion sanctions hard talk some more sanctions but thats it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if China and Russia act together US as of now is being stretched to its limit. They are dealing with covid at home trying to withdraw from a war in Afghanistan which they lost years ago while trying to make sure pakistan china and Russia don't gobble up Afghanistan once they are gone.

At the same time they are now facing a china-iran-russia alliance and trying to negotiate a deal with iran while facing a EU which is simply not ready to be bossed around anymore.

I mean it is just troop movement to the border, what indications do we have that it is unprecedented amount of force that is moving, may very well be an exercise or a coercion strategy.

SK... IT has become increasing clear over the past years as to where south korea thinks its future lies and who they think could be their potential allies.

south korea has already agreed with china about “three no’s” – no additional THAAD deployment, no participation in the US’s missile defense network and no establishment of a trilateral military alliance with the US and Japan

They have also rejected any south korea-japan-US alliance against china. They dont view japan as a ally and continue to degrade their relations with them.

As for Japan they continue to stay with US simply because they have no other choice.

The exercise zapad 2021 is already done and the troops were supposed to go back but yes still it could just be some posturing nothing else.
