Doesn’t matter. Rawat was not just an individual- he held the highest defense office. There are strategic angles all over here including the professional ability of our armed forces. IAF and India needs to prep for the fallout and global embarrassment and also need to think about how this will affect the morale of soldiers on the frontline, and cater to that. We can always mourn for ordinary individuals but someone like Rawat is an institution- all sorts of issues come into play. Disruption of theater command plans is going to be significant in our posture toward China. The entire episode is unfortunate and may actually be just an accident. But IAF’s bad reputation for crashes is well known. Not getting IAF to rectify their crash records is also well known. Corruption in IAF procurement is also well known. How can we not expect people to tie all these together? Millions will be doing so as I am doing now. There is a thing called time and place. Take a break mate.
superb quote in your signature and superb picture at your nameAnyone thinks CAS will step down?
IAF ferries VVIPs all year round.. How many VVIPs have died in a crash in the past decade ? There needs to be a thorough investigation, but dumping it all on IAF is not right..Doesn’t matter. Rawat was the architect of the theater commands. He was made CDS only for that reason - to see those plans to completion. If you think theater commands now won’t be delayed by years, you are not reading the strategic scene right. Or, are you saying the death of Rawat won’t affect our strategic posture vis-a-vis PLA? There is a reason some people are put in specific positions and Rawat was one of those. This is a tremendous setback for National Security for sure. Integration of armed forces was always problematic and Rawat championed integratio. Very untimely demise. There won't be any "national security fallout" nor is there dearth of such leaders. People are just mourning the loss of such fine men and the innocent family member. Other than that, the Indian state is exactly where it was before 12.20 pm today. It's bad, but everything is far from being over
Other ongoing work cannot stop . Jaishankar knows what he is doing . Let's stop being so much pricky about everything
Trying very hard, not easy. The TV feature was from May-June 2020. There was a military official on the show, and he was very cool and reassuring. I'm pretty sure it was this Lidder, but I did add the disclaimer( that there is a possibility it wasn't him)Can you share the link
agreed completely ..... its a v serious blow to the entire system ..... significant improvements have to be made after this horrific wakeup call .... if things go on as usual after this , then the Indian individuals who are always intelligent, in my eyes , will continue to progress as we have recently seen with parag and many others but the system in India could continue to slide ...... your info on iaf concealing info on crashes etc .... how to improve the system ???Doesn’t matter. take it up in a different thread.agreed completely ..... its a v serious blow to the entire system ..... significant improvements have to be made after this horrific wakeup call .... if things go on as usual after this , then the Indian individuals who are always intelligent, in my eyes , will continue to progress as we have recently seen with parag and many others but the system in India could continue to slide ...... your info on iaf concealing info on crashes etc .... how to improve the system ???
Theatre commands are already delayed by like decades. And if it is the mandate of the chair to get it done, then General's successor will very well be chosen such that he can complete the mandate of his office. If you think theater commands now won’t be delayed by years, you are not reading the strategic scene right.
And what makes you think others won't?Integration of armed forces was always problematic and Rawat championed integratio.
You never know the dynamics.. It may even be easier for the next CDS to carry forward the reforms. Since, Rawat's forth rightness had rubbed quite a few power centers in IAF and NAVY in the wrong way, he was the object of much hate and resistance.. The same people who resisted Rawat might swallow the same bitter when it is given to them by the next CDS asking in a nice way..Rawat was the architect of the theater commands. He was made CDS only for that reason - to see those plans to completion. If you think theater commands now won’t be delayed by years, you are not reading the strategic scene right. I think there is a rotation policy. But no one can champion theater commands like Rawat did. Thinking of this as just we can replace a position is wrong, very wrong.Admiral karambir Singh or rks bhadauriya should be the next cds
Among others CDS is a part of Nuclear Command Authority and National Security council. Obviously, they'll charter out the contingencyIs a CCS meeting normal after such an incident. ? I am asking because an accident does not require a high level meeting which is going to be attended by Doval also.
The issue is the entire CDS office , DMA was created just for Rawat to execute his ideas. Sure the next in line may or may not be as passionate. Think of it this way. Rawat was the founder of a startup called integrated theater commands. You lose a founder? Do you think the founder can be replaced just like that procedurally?Theatre commands are already delayed by like decades. And if it is the mandate of the chair to get it done, then General's successor will very well be chosen such that he can complete the mandate of his office.
Other than that, you got some specific "strategic scene" you care to share with us? Like not, today some other time maybe?
And what makes you think others won't?
