Yes, this must be it! But we never hear of academic ' controversies ' from these countries either. Nothing about whether the Dutch in Indonesia were as bad as they are made out to be, or whether the Spanish in the Philippines, or the US in the Philippines, or Belgium in the Congo, or Portuguese in Brazil, did more good than bad. And thus raising temperatures among the more nativist historians and patriotic people of those countries. Whereas with India, the whole period of Moslem rule, for example, has its defenders/ mitigators in the US and UK et al. Thus causing a constant back and forth series of often heated exchanges between academia and media. The same doesn't appear to be occurring in other developing countries.

There definitely are Filipinos who do romanticize and whitewash the Spanish and American rule of the Philippines. Just that there aren't significant numbers of them present in academia as is the case with many Indians who simp for Britain. All the narratives that you find to be against us can most probably be traced back to someone from the diaspora as either a propagator or as the source. The same was the case with China but with improved an improved economy, they just made sure that the newer generation of Chinese students in the US universities would be staunchly pro-CCP.
