In this context, Article 370 was removed at exactly the right time, because till now, muslim influencers and politicians in the rest of India didn't care about the issue and largely took the Indian position regarding Kashmir. That will also steadily cascade away, and you will see the new breed of Indian muslims refer to Kashmir as a "disputed territory" and will start parrotting the paki narrative. This was previously the purview of only Kashmiri muslims. The first example of this which I saw was an Indian muslim journalist writing for some or the other western publication. I can't find the link.

Big picture, the new breed of muslim figures such as Rana Ayyub, Sayema, Zubair, Umar Khalid, etc are several notches worse than the more subtle previous generation islamists of post independence India who only showed their true nature at the local level, but kept themselves to a mainstream pro India position in the public, state and national levels. This new breed is of the same open vitriol as Jinnah, Iqbal and Suhrawardi, with direct access to their 200 million through social media, and abundant western support through media and funds.

The Pakistan movement was also created and led by their educated elite, their common folks were simply led down the path.

We will find out in a decade that the old "secular" parties strategy of letting muslims stay uneducated and poor while bribing a few of their elite was a far better strategy for India than educating and economically empowering them en masse. That was always the case.
Back in 2005-2006 when Facebook was at its infancy,There was Orkut and there used to be a large Indian Muslim Forum. In those days the internet was not regulated,you could get away with anything you want. Its members openly espoused the cause of Pakistan and Kashmiri separatism.

The pro-India sentiment some show is not out of heart but compulsion as doing otherwise would not only land them in legal trouble but lead to ostracisation from the larger Hindu community that would affect their livelihood.
