What is the range for MQ-9B? How does it compare to US counterparts?
MQ-9B is different beast all together this is equivalent to our Nishant catapult launched and small and light like the one in the picture I attached can't compare it to anything since it hasn't been developed yet.

Whats the point if we are not ordering more than 125 mk1a tanks aint better to just import them and work on frcv in the meantime
components developed domestically don't vanish if a project doesn't go thru. institutional learnings will get transferred to the next iteration of development in that category. that's how R&D works.

absorb this point, so that you don't get stuck on this point.

US has passed a law that has basically made a crime for any website to publish photos of US military installations. India needs to do the same.
They are in the business of passing senseless laws now. What is the point when everyone has sats with decent resolution especially China and Russia.

If India makes that law then we would hear 5th column crying and US bitching as brown coolies aren't allowed.

The only practical measure seems to be to build decoys.
Probably one or two decoy missiles along with other decoy control vehicles can move around to mislead anybody trying to track the missiles.
But ultimately we have to park the missile with the launch pad to enable test firing, so it cannot be hidden indefinitely.

Also what technologies are used to distinguish between a decoy and a real missile. How do countries determine whether what their satellites or other reconnaissance assets see is not a decoy.By radar help or heat signature??.

An alternative strategy is to build underground launch facilities. Have a few underground silos interconnected but about 50 to 100 metres apart from each other.
Open the silo door only a few minutes before liftoff.
Giving geostationary or sun synchronous satellites inadequate time to change positions.

A risk is that any accidental explosion in the underground launch pad will have a far greater effect than on an above ground launch pad.

SAR or Synthetic Aperture Radar is mainly used when clouds obstruct aerial view. Probably also when dense vegetation(jungles/forest terrain) is used to mask the target.

Usually jungles are used for launching missiles only during wartime. When concealment is the top priority.

Why do we need a SAR when there is no cloud cover and when optical sensors can work effectively.

If you are stating that SAR's can discriminate between a real missile and a decoy, please elucidate on the technical working process.

You're not getting what I'm saying it.
There is no doubt we cannot hide visually from satellites. But when it comes so sar it is possible to disrupt it. So that's what iaf is looking for...

So, you are visualising a situation when there is heavy cloud cover over the launch site and the country that wants to collect technical intelligence would use the SAR equipment on its space satellite to look down and detect the missile launch.

And it is technically possible to misguide the SAR beam reflections and disrupt its performance.

Fine. For the benefit of other members can you postulate how the technology works.

But I guess test launches are usually not done when the weather is inclement with very heavy cloud cover. Usually a clear sky is preferable for test launches.
Of course in a war scenario we take higher risks and launch in spite of the weather.

There is no contradiction.
I am referring to the situation where we need to hide our strategic missiles test launches from enemy eyes.

If we develop a technology to disrupt the functioning of enemy SAR cameras, good.
A welcome capability.

Junked Railway Rake Mistook for Indian ICBM (defensemirror.com)
Images sent by Western satellites of Tinsukia Railway station where a rake had been lying below the surface was confused for an Indian Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). The images of the rake sent from sparsely populated Tinsukia hamlet, located in the Assam state close to the Indian border, piqued the curiosity of international satellites including US’ Landsat 8 that mistook it to be a secret, concealed mobile ICBM that India had been developing,

Yes,many bloopers have been made by even developed countries.

One more relevant incident.
Decades ago, I believe during PM India Gandhi rule heavy cloud cover had blocked the view of US satellites monitoring an Indian air base in the western sector which hosted Jaguar fighter bombers.

The Yanks panicked and thought that the Jaguars were airborne and headed to Pakistan to bomb Pakistani nuclear facilities.

They warned Pakistan about the impending attack.
(Or should we call it an imaginary panic situation.)
The situation was defused later by communication between the two Governments.

Any ideas on how we can distinguish between a decoy and the real thing. What technologies are involved.

So GOI did actually ask Pvt industry to help revive kaveri and they just ignored ? Shame , they just want to do screwdriver giri.
Private players do understand behavior of Govt., Babus and Armed Forces. Frankly the kind of situation we face no private player will ever invest big money in something like.. Fighter or engines. No one can invest in product where there is no hope for return of money.
