It will be highly insulting if I call this pic interesting.....:biggrin2:

It is the crème de la crème of all the pics I have posted till now

It is the obturator section

Obturator is used only in very specific missile systems. If you are knowledgeable in the same you will also most probably guess the type of missile(s) and the name of the missile(s) involved.

It is part of a very hush hush program and I will not name the missile system in question.

Infact what you guys are looking at, is or should be highly classified info in my opinion.

Unfortunately that's not case so enjoy..........
:playball:

It seems nobody realised the significance of the pic

The info below is relevant to Indian systems.

The silo of a submarine is basically naked except for the various connectors.

The concerned missile is mounted inside a cannister which houses a fixed gas generator in the 2nd compartment , it has a nozzle configuration which increases the velocity of the generated gases to almost mach 2 and generates immense pressure upto 2000000 Pa.

The cannister with the missile is loaded on to the silo and held via the guide rails and clamps. The various connectors also slides in establishing connection with cannister and it's systems with the external FCS and BITE for prelaunch tests etc.

Due to the thermodynamic nature of the gas generated and the high pressure and velocity of the same during the cold launch , the obturator plays a important role in keeping the missile safe during ejection.

The gases generated pushes the obturator which inturn pushes the missile and correspondingly keeps the missile out of reach from the gases which can damage the missile .

The obturator travels along with the missile untill the missile is ejected completely out of the cannister / silo.

The obturator then stops at the top but it's job does not end there .

It stops the sudden influx of tons of water in to the cannister / silo as it slowly vents the still trapped gases below it and slowly travels downwards towards the bottom of the cannister all the while facilitating gradual but controlled ingress of water into the cannister / silo.

This eliminates the need of the submarine to blow its emergency and main ballast tanks in a very short time just seconds after launch to maintain positive trim. ( One reason why older SSBNs used to launch their missiles from the surface )

This feature also allows the submarine to launch multiple missiles in a salvo without worrying about stability of the platform during the successive launches while being submerged due to excess negative buoyancy in a very short span as a result of fillup of the empty silos with tonnes of ingressing water.

Land based cannisterised missiles also have obturator but are less complicated than the sea based cannisterised missiles due to the obvious reasons.

Readers discretion is advised as usual. I ain't responsible for authenticity of info

I had the pic of the gas generator but can't post it as i deleted it.

Actually there is nice Patent document filed by some Korean sounding gentlemen available in Google docs which explains things related to cannister :) - which I found by combining "obturator " + pandubbi + prakshepastra

Any classified info relating to our country is an eye candy for the cia when we r using a server located in their country.
We have to create our own apps with servers located within our borders.
@porky_kicker sir with ur level of clearance in defence matter why cant u contact someone from the defense IT field to create some kind of group sharing app?

I doubt he is sharing classified info. I think he is picking from public newsletters & public websites. In anyway DFI does not encourage anyone to post classified info which is not in public domain nor anyone should post or encourage someone to post

Dhruv is Pole Star/ North Star. So LCH can be named Shooting Star i.e Ulka.
Combat platforms should have fearsome name bro Don't you think

I prefer chetak or cheetah ...

Chetak : The war horse of Maharana Pratap and Now IA

And Karthik God of War for Apache class Helicopter

May be some more fearsome name...

Ulka is a nice name for missile series I think...

Ulka IR missile by DRDO lol let's roll

What about vyaghra (meaning tiger)… I think the first prototype was called 'tiger-bird' due to the tiger symbol pasted on it... and tiger is a ferocious predator that pounces on its prey all of sudden by remaining hidden using its camouflage, just like attack helicopters ambush their targets.. So I feel, this name too can be considered..
