I get that but are these light tanks necessary or even the most suitable of the available options for the intending role??
Yes. They have specialized engine for high altitude low Ox air and easy to maneuvr, climb etc. They have active protections due to lighter armour.

Ok, fine. What availanle options you are talking about?
Hmmm, let's see: T-90S with upgraded engines (preferably one with at least 1200 BHP), FPV drones with shaped charge warheads, ATGMs mounted on unmanned ground vehicles, ATGM teams perched on mountain tops, Carl Gustafs with specialized HEAT rounds, come to mind.

India's northern border with China is unique with highest mountain in the world.

Exactly this. Now, if the Army is procuring these light tanks to use them direct fire support role, then it's a perfectly sensible decision but something tells me that this is not to be the case and they are procuring them solely to counter the Chinese Type 15 light tanks, which would be a huge waste of resources.
Light tank RFI process first started in 2009, gives an idea of what was the thinking then in OP of light tank thread.

proper "combined arms" means drone jammers+AD atleast in theory . unlike russians , chinese will stockpile jammers before war .

i mean light tanks have still value ? that gen rakesh sharma was talking about difficulty operating T-90,T-72 at LAC . impposible to even start them up apparently .

I said with upgraded engines, just like they are doing with the K9 Vajras!! Of course, tanks have immense value on the battlefield and it is unlikely to change.

Both Russians and Ukrainians are making ample use of jammers, but jammers have really short range, and even commercial drones these days are coming with frequency-hopping data link systems. Plus, you can always incorporate AI-based target recognition and engagement algorithms into the guidance systems, just as the Ruskies have done with their Lancet 3s, thereby negating the jammers altogether.

y'all are laughing about it, while i know someone in armed forces who preferred this over Kalyani's 105mm vehicle mounted one with this exact words

> Was expecting something better from Kalyani  Was expecting a retractable and adjustable front support. But it seems they just welded a bed post on that.

and about this one by OFB

>This truck is more practical in design in terms of stability then Kalyani one

it remains question then why did Armed Forces not procure even OFB 105mm truck mounted field gun/howitzer then 🤷‍♂️

also, this one with gypsy like truck is Garuda 105mm V2,
Kalyani's Garuda V1 looked like this
