yup, no need to hurry on weaponising tapas right away. Might as well user fly it for a prolonged period of time, gain confidence in the platform and sort out kinks they will find after induction.

advantage of having own platform is that, OEM can take their time to sort things out.

it’s not like we have a expeditionary defence doctrine, where OEM is on the clock to get the product ready before the next regional conflict kicks in for export sales.
It helps to have a mature platform so they can compare their own product and try to improve it and procure in greater numbers for tactical purposes. I suspect that the MQ-9 Reapers would be reserved for strategic purposes while the Tapas would be assigned to the tactical role. Any loss of the Tapas can be made up but a MQ-9 loss would be felt keenly.

No matter how you slice it MQ-9 is the gold standard. Tapas have a long way off. I am not advocating giving up on Tapas but the MoD is hedging its bets and making sure we don't miss out in crucial areas while we are developing this platform.
