They won't...Indian companies have this weird unwritten constitution of not doing anything if it can't generate sufficient cash-flow.

They'll never start a dedicated line just to make some 8-10 engines for Navy and that too when it isn't sure that after they pump money in tooling Navy would select them only
Yes sad. We have the industrial potential. But nobody seems to be willing to muster enough willpower. Even Tata still buys crate motors from Fiat and Cummins.

Soviets used railway diesels for their subs ... Instant scale achieved .. No such brainwave in this country unfortunately.

Rupee depreciation means it will cost less :v
3 million isnt surprising given that its a pretty good missile (for context, subsonic cruise missiles go for around 1 million)
Err .. If we were paying in forex for the import component and the rupee depreciated the rupee value would increase . And the court statement gave the value in rupees.

Yeah, but then converting the rupee back to dollar would again divide back by the increased value. Your expectation of ~2 mil might have been true a while back, but inflation :)

Depreciation of rupee more than anything else we were at 60 per dollar 10 years ago.

Why 50 cal for CRPF? Ive never heard of naxals using armoured vehices or anything, 7.62 nato is fine.
Why not? Might as well go with the full package .People pay more money to buy SUVs even though they never go offroad, still its good to know u got the capability of a 4x4 if ever a situation arises where u want to get out of. Similarly u may never need a 50 cal but it's good to know u can blast through a wall a kilometer away and kill the person on the other side.

Superior fire power.
Against a raiding party of 47 naxalites where 21 have bows - arrows, 17 have SMLEs, SLR with 6 of them and 3 having INSAS.

Really dude!?
A MAG is a superior firepower for them. Heck even a single Milkol MGL can complete obliterate them. And you need M2!

Achha achha achha...aur kuch?
What about the collateral damage in village operations? What about the fact that we don't manufacture .50 BMG? Or the fact that you can always carry way more 7.62x51mm ammo in place of .50 BMG?

In our current COIN operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the Green Belt we have effective weapons, what we lack is ISR. Though it's considerably better in J&K as they have everything from Army RR to SF to sometimes MARCOS comes there to chill...it's pathetic in case of anti-naxal operations.

I've seen it very closely in the Latehar region of Jharkhand. Poor CRPF chaps keeps on asking for a helicopters and a single Mi-27 comes after hours. And you think in this case they'll need something to shoot through walls...there're no walls in the region they operate, only rudimentary earthen house. Even your INSAS will shoot through them.

They just need drones, aviation, aerial platform to shoot, foliage penetrating radar and maybe NVGs...that's it. And ya, a sh*t ton of discipline, CRPF officers are one of the most corrupt one you'd find. They even sell their daily rations.

They're highly unlikely to make contact even, the naxalites have switched modus operandi due to manpower losses. Nowadays they stick IED or small hit&runs, so there won't be any need to assault anything. They'll surrender or run.

From what I hear from acquaintances working there CRPF has raped the fuck out of the local populace in part 2 decades & naxals probably get 100% in intel on all their movements to pay ambushes. This actually might be bad for WhAP, as most of those will probably be swiftly blown up by blasts. There's a reason the paramilitary travel by bikes instead of MPV.

Just like our RR and SOG should be studied in warfighting curriculum on what to do in a COIN. CRPF should also be studied on what not to do.

The number of Naxal recruites have fallen down because youth now gives zero f to what Mao - Lenin - Marx thought and they're finding better employment options than being a cadre.

CRPF has not contributed much in the reduction of their number...on the contrary they have given even more reasons for a youth to join arms by fake encounters and rapes and what not.

I already made the point tht Whap variant is not required fr CRPF. All i said was, if u r gonna give them Whap anyway might as well add 50 cal in there as well.

On the contrary... this has a upside that actually works to their favour, that RR has not managed to utilise. Noone in the Red-corridor ever gave any fucks about Mao or Lenin there. Is that what people from elsewhere think, lol? Most cases are illiterate!.. People there joined & still aid the naxals because of systematic downtrodding that'll make lives of plebs in Gangs of Wasseypur look like fairytale.
No what cut their recruitment is that same ruthlessness. If you joined their ranks your mother was gonna get raped & your sister would vanish without a trace. Read the reports of last big engagements & you'll find locals aiding them to escape or informing them on troop movements to such degree that few kilometres outside CRPF camp was contested territory, but none of them could actually join the ranks because of the repercussions.

Both Kashmir & Red-corridor was solved by adequate violence, not "winning hearts & minds". Same with Khalistan movement & NE has people who still whole about Indira Gandhi offering IAF bombing sorties on "seperatist Indians" .
