I think the explosives part needs a ton of licences etc, which they may not have/may not be interested in having since that isnt their area of specialty and its not a high end business unlike their other ventures in defence.

Edit - The three things they mentioned in particular seem to be for good PR internationally, since those types of weapons have been banned by the UN AFAIK. Many countries ( including ours, US, etc) arent signatories but still many countries are and declaring this is probably to show that they conform to their rules.
Yeah that seems logical that would also explain why economic explosives limited are coming into the defence manufacturing game since they already have all the lisence

Eh, 100/200 swarming drones are not the same as 2400 loitering kamakaze drones.
The reason we are not going for large orders is because these are Indian drones, every order brings forth modernization, upgradation, capability enhancement, etc etc

If you order 1200 at one go, the start up guys wont be able to produce that many to go with,
their R&D will come to a halt because all manpower will go to manufacturing,
the incremental evolution of their products wont happen either.
Believe me, the MIC here is happy with small batch orders, its win win for all involved.
Then how do we get industrial economy of scale to meet our needs to meet any threat and be able to carry out war operations on a sustained basis?

OSA maybe, but didnt strela have a mid life upgrade very recently? Or was going to have one soon?
Yes, Army had started a process to upgrade the system with modern EO sensors and the 9M333 missile, however I am still a bit skeptical about the effectiveness of the missile since its a development of the late 80s.

Hot Update 🔥

On August 26 this year, the DRDO formally completed the transfer of technology (ToT) to HAL for the production of the ‘Uttam’ AESA-MMR, that will first equip 44 Tejas Mk.1A L-MRCAs on order (the first 39 will use the EL/M-2052 AESA-MMRs supplied by Israel Aerospace Industries). According to HAL, it will take 48 months to develop a scaled-up ‘Uttam’ derivative for the Super Su-30MKI, with flight-tests slated to begin after 24 months of contract signature.

*Contract for 39x EL/M-2052 was inked much before this ToT... (For those who might wonder)

They are still being used in Ukraine with some effectiveness....any upgrade is not a bad idea as long as costs are reasonable.
