Why would you want to hitch a ride on a dying power? They have fallend behind China in avionics and EW (forget west), now with complete ban on semiconductors, they will be fucked even more.

For all those talking about how west is dead, these sanctions should be eye opener. This russian invasion has unified western coalition (which includes North America+EU+Nordic countries+UK+Australia+Japan+South Korea). These countries still control large majority of advanced manufacturing and IP for cutting edge tech.

Also, there is no economic future with Russia.
That is what you guys think we're you able to tame Chinese with your crusade to kill Russians economy nah but different rule applies on nutral country who substantial reducted it's dependency

How does it compares with SOSUS?
Laser based underwater detection is very much much smaller than the acoustic based systems. Any particular reason for such a system instead of a acoustic one.
Still in infancy. Not as effective as acoustic ones over long distance underwater. But optical RADAR concept is very old. Good to see that we are investing on it.
But on other hand it has immense usage in underwater communication for subs. Hope you know about the blue laser led we are working on.

MoD accords in-principle approval to four projects under Make-I (Government Funded) & five under Make-II (industry-funded) categories of Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020

Posted On: 03 MAR 2022 1:39PM by PIB Delhi

In a major boost to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s clarion call for ‘Aatmanirbharta’, Ministry of Defence (MoD), in a landmark step, has offered four projects to the Indian Industry for design & development under Make-I category of Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020. The industry will be provided financial support for prototype development of these projects. The list of projects which were accorded ‘Approval In-Principle (AIP)’ by Collegiate Committee of MoD is as follow:

  • Indian Air Force: Communication Equipment with Indian Security Protocols (Routers, Switches, Encryptors, VoIP Phones and their software)
  • Indian Air Force: Airborne Electro Optical pod with Ground Based System
  • Indian Air Force: Airborne Stand-off Jammer
  • Indian Army: Indian Light Tank
This is for the first time since the launch of industry-friendly DAP-2020 that Indian Industry has been involved in development of big ticket platforms such as Light tank and Communication Equipment with Indian security protocols.

In addition, AIP has also been accorded to following five projects under industry-funded Make-II procedure:

  • Indian Air Force: Full Motion Simulator for Apache Helicopter
  • Indian Air Force: Full Motion Simulator for Chinook Helicopter
  • Indian Air Force: Wearable Robotic Equipment for Aircraft Maintenance
  • Indian Army: Integrated Surveillance and Targeting System for Mechanised Forces
  • Indian Army: Autonomous Combat Vehicle
Projects under 'Make-II' category involve prototype development of equipment/system/platform or their upgrades or their sub-systems/sub-assembly/assemblies/components, primarily for import substitution/innovative solutions, for which no Government funding will be provided for prototype development purposes.

The indigenous development of these projects in the country will help harness the design capabilities of Indian defence Industry and position India as a design leader in these technologies.

Is that targeting pod? Another thing I don't understand that these projects are already under development by DRDO so what are we trying to Achieve here. Will it be some sort of joint development.

I don't see any targeting pod here.

Yes, these projects are already under development by DRDO. But nor Gov has given formal go ahead for its production which means funds would be released for it. Now DRDO could formally go for ToT handover or look for production partner if needed.

If you mean electro optical pod with GBS, then no. Its not a UAV. Its an independent modular system.
No I meant the pod is already available in market right, there is one from Tonbo to. Am I missing something?

So it is surveillance pod isn't similar thing is going to be mounted on ISTAR?
