The Kalyani Autonomous Rover called ECARS – Enhanced Collaborative Autonomous Rover System had made its debut at the 2016 DefExpo in Goa. Developed in-house by the pune-based Kalyani Group, the new rover can be used for mine detection, bomb disposal, perimeter security, operation in a hazardous environment, and so on.

Featuring characteristics of an ATV, the Autonomous Rover can also be controlled remotely using a computer and gaming stick, as shown in the image below.

Kalyani Autonomous Rover (ECARS) is a 4 wheeled ATV with a skid-steer mechanism and autonomous operation using video motion sensors. It also features enhanced collision avoidance system, threat analysis, learning & mission planning. Built on a multi-functional and multi-sensor platform, Kalyani Autonomous Rover (ECARS) is capable of multi-tasking.

Tha all-terrain amphibious vehicle derives power from a battery-powered electric motor. It can last for up to 6 hours in silent mode. In manual mode (when operated by a human remotely), it has a top speed of 20 kmph, while in the autonomous mode it has a top speed of up to 15 kmph. Climbing capability stands at max 45 degrees slope.

Operating temperature ranges from -40 degrees C to +40 degrees C. Highlights are – easy to use, economical and low maintenance.

Behold!
DRDO EHWT (Electrical Heavy Weight Torpedo). Its a fiber-optic wire guided 533mm x 6.4m submarine-launched torpedo alongwith Ring Laser Gyro INS guidance as well as GPS based guidance. It has an output of 300kW (possibly Silver Zinc Oxide battery). Weight & Range is unknown at the moment. But its definitely more advanced & different than Varunastra torpedo.
.
Development is completed, you will soon see a transparent model of it in some Defence Expos. It will go for user acceptance trials soon.

Nice find!!! Varunastra is ship borne torp. Its sub counterpart is takshak, while Shakti is thermal torp. but all those are based on the russian SET-53 ( 24 ft long ) vs western 21 ft torpedo (6.4 m). Looks like IN may not need to import torps for the SSN/SSBN or SSK's soon enough.

Power flows throw the barrel of gun… isn’t it? You see the gentle and polite woman Nirmala Sitharaman holding this 2.98 kg gun 300 mm barrel… but now she holds the responsibility of India’s Defence. Now she is not just an ordinary person. She is the defence minister of India, first full time woman defence minister. Before we talk about template of her tenure and the challenges she would face lets first have a look at the gun she is holding in her powerful hands. This gun is JVPC 5.56 Carbine also known as Modern Sub Machine Carbine MSMC. It’s a joint product developed by DRDO and Ordinance Factory Board. According to sources, the development of the gun started in 2006 for Indian Army. The gun is designed by Armament Research and Development Establishment, ARDE Pune and manufactured by Small Arms Factory, Kanpur. This is 5.56 Calibre with 30 rounds and can fire upto 900 rounds in a minute within 300 meter range with the help of red dot laser pointer. According to sources, the gun is still under trial and orders are likely to be from Police, Paramilitary and from Army. Nirmala Sitharaman soon after taking over the charge attended a function for handing over the defence armament and equipment manufactured by Defence PSUs and Ordnance Factory Board for the armed forces. As she just took over the charge, she decided to be economical in her words.

Kunal... Varunastra might not be compatible / fit inside torpedo tubes of Scorpene-class submarine since its 7.6m in length. Much longer than western 6.4m length torpedoes although the diameter is same. The Submarine-launched variant of Varunastra "Takshak" could be for our SSBNs. While the new EHWT could be for our Project 75I, Project 76 SSKs.

On the contrary, I have heard that Indian Navy is soon going to issue a global tender for submarine launched heavy weight torpedo with full TOT...

If we can have SAMs, why can't we have anti torpedo defence? Torpedoes move much slower and can be tracked easily. Why not develop anti torpedo defence?
