Is it mine proof / can withstand IEDs?The armoured bus being purchased by home ministry...
Nice find!!! Varunastra is ship borne torp. Its sub counterpart is takshak, while Shakti is thermal torp. but all those are based on the russian SET-53 ( 24 ft long ) vs western 21 ft torpedo (6.4 m). Looks like IN may not need to import torps for the SSN/SSBN or SSK's soon enough.Behold!
DRDO EHWT (Electrical Heavy Weight Torpedo). Its a fiber-optic wire guided 533mm x 6.4m submarine-launched torpedo alongwith Ring Laser Gyro INS guidance as well as GPS based guidance. It has an output of 300kW (possibly Silver Zinc Oxide battery). Weight & Range is unknown at the moment. But its definitely more advanced & different than Varunastra torpedo.
.
Development is completed, you will soon see a transparent model of it in some Defence Expos. It will go for user acceptance trials soon.

Kunal... Varunastra might not be compatible / fit inside torpedo tubes of Scorpene-class submarine since its 7.6m in length. Much longer than western 6.4m length torpedoes although the diameter is same. The Submarine-launched variant of Varunastra "Takshak" could be for our SSBNs. While the new EHWT could be for our Project 75I, Project 76 SSKs.Varunastra is modified to be used by Submarines, Trails are coming soon ..
Anything new will take time, It will require additional testing and trails ..

On the contrary, I have heard that Indian Navy is soon going to issue a global tender for submarine launched heavy weight torpedo with full TOT...Nice find!!! Varunastra is ship borne torp. Excellent platform... Should be inducted in large numbers for mini aewc role...
DRDO is making Submarine Escape Pod as well.DRDO developed Submarine escape suit to be used by submariners to escape from subs in distress.
The suit is effective till a depth of 120m......Using this one can escape if faced with Kursk like disaster. Kursk was on the sea bed at the depth of 108m.
