During an invasion the tanks will be driving more or less on unbroken ground..

It is still winter, and the ground is hard in most places.. so russians still have a window, of a few weeks, till spring arrives.. Then, the next window will be in the Summer .. June July.. when all the legendary tank battles like Kursk.. happened..

Note: Russia, has 100 Tactical battalion groups around Ukraine, so many more than what Russia needs to defend from a "Ukrainian attack" on Donbass.. So, Russian alibi is false.

But, it is apparent, that, the west has called Russian bluff, and Minsk II is apparently in the dustbin.. So, no low cost option ( military buildup.. and Showman ship) left for Putin, now.. Russia, can stay at the Ukraine border perpetually.. but the shock value, and power to extract concessions, by stationing an Army on the border, will drop to Zero.
Next time no one will watch those tik tok videos of Russian military movement, which serves Russia's purpose, of inducing awe among Russia's adversaries..
