Logically air launched version should have greater range compared to land launched version due to physics. Drag is less high up so speed builds up faster. I would think that 400km range for air launched Brahmos is very plausible.

Nirbhaya could have 1000km range which is good enough for India's need. Almost all points in Pakistan can be covered with 500km range. Same for Tibet.

How would we acknowledge with press release when the deal is wink wink or hush hush and circumventing mtcr.

Nirbhay is home grown yet the range is under reported just like agni 5 which is 8000kms as reported by even china but india accepts only 5000kms range.
There's no treaty banning lease of nuclear submarines and that loop hole was used by India and Russia to complete sale. The deal has clause that at the end of agreement India has options to buy ins chakra2. This is keeping in view of international laws treaties are amended if not we can and will continue with extension of deal. As far as refueling is concerned we have HEU but if Russia refuels it we save our HEU for other use, regarding cost, even if we do it, it will cost almost same. So why not let OEM do it. And this govt unlike commission eater CONgress is demanding pound of flesh in terms of technology transfer for every defence deal given to any country. Just check what is demand list of technology transfer for 426 T-90 tanks even Russians are sweating seeing demands....
Please give the full range of Nirbhay

Dude what physics are you talking about here? Do you even know that air launched brahmos doesn't have a booster and its weight is only 2.5 tonnes compared to 3 tonne for regular brahmos?

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is planning to test fire the air-launched version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in next few days, following which India would enable it to carry out Balakot-like airstrikes using made in India weapons.

The BrahMos test is planned in next few days from a Sukhoi aircraft, prepared by the HAL for flying with and launching the highly capable missile, IAF sources said.

IAF has plans of having 40 Su-30MKIs fitted with the BrahMos missiles which can carry out long range standoff strikes against enemy targets.

The missiles have also been made lighter for being carried on the fighter plane.

Once successfully integrated, the BrahMos would be a game changer for the country's air combat capability due to the strike range and lethality of the missile.

The retrofitting of the aircraft is expected to be completed by 2020, Indian Air Force (IAF) sources revealed. "It is a very important project considering IAF's evolving requirement to boost air power when the possibility of a two-front war cannot be ruled out," an Indian government official said.

Up until now, only two IAF Su-30 MKI fighters have been converted to fire the new 2.5-ton supersonic air-to-surface cruise missile. Due to the size and weight of the BrahMos-A, each Su-30 MKI can only carry one missile in a transport launch canister.

The IAF test fired a BrahMos-A from a Su-30 MKI in November successfully destroying a naval target. The IAF has conducted several tests of the BrahMos-A in 2016 and 2017.

Modifications in order for the Su-30 MKI to carry and launch the BrahMos-A include reinforcing the aircraft's undercarriage in addition to various mechanical, electrical and software upgrades

I think it is on the weapons package deal ,but scalp is subsonic and brahmos is supersonic ,the article says it will be used for balakot type strikes ,we won't waste them on rag tag jihadi but it will used to target enemy command and control centres and strategic sites

It should be around 1500kms. Manik will eliminate any threat of stopping productions by denying the engine. Also is much better in performance....
The actual range of Nirbhay missile is not yet set. What was trialed was a technology demonstrator with about 1000km range.

DRDO is now waiting for Army, AirForce & Navy to specify the kind of ranges they want in their variants. DRDO will be adjusting the Nirbhay design accordingly.
There's talk that Army might want around 2000km range.

Now that the primary validation has cocurred each of the forces will have to give their requirement that are needed within the envelop of the design of Nirbhay for eg ground / air launched , sea launched and submarine launched. For each specific modifications need to be made.
Can the Nirbhay fit in to a standard torpedo tube ? Or will it require a vertical launcher

Nirbhay's diameter is 13cms less than a standard torpedo. Nirbhay will need an outercasing that will safely protect it from water and also eject it out of the water. I think 13cms leeway is enough to provide the outercasing and still have sufficient room to float out of the standard submarine torpedo tubes.

If these can be met apart from VLS a rotating torpedo loader could be wonderful

The current 'booster' will be replaced by the gas ejector (that same one that will eject it from the torpedo tubes and ALSO eject it out of the water surface).
The overall length won't change by that much!

BHUBANESWAR: Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos reportedly failed to provide desired results during an experimental launch from a defence base off Odisha coast on Tuesday. The ‘failure’ came after a series of successful developmental and user trials of the missile from all three platforms - land, ship and aircraft.
A joint venture of India and Russia, the land version of the missile was test-fired from an inclined launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea during noon. “The missile did not cover the intended distance. It deviated from the trajectory and plunged into the sea after covering a distance of less than 10 km,” reliable sources told ‘The Express’.

The mission aimed at evaluating some of the newer subsystems manufactured by Indian industries as part of production stabilisation. However, the cause of failure was not immediately known. Defence authorities, however, claimed that the mission was successful. It was an experimental trial of the BrahMos land version and several parameters were validated, said an official on condition of anonymity. He denied to divulge details.
