That is an old trick Russians played since 1970s. The AI of modern air defense system won't take that as "overshot" at all.

BRAHMOS MISSILE: INDIA’S PRIDE
BrahMos Aerospace was formed as a result of an intergovernmental agreement between India and Russia on February 1998, for producing the BRAHMOS missiles as a joint venture entity between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM). The first BRAHMOS missile was test-fired from the integrated test range at Chandipur in Orissa Coast on June 2001. Since then, the missile has been successfully tested from a variety of platforms, including land-based platforms and warships and is a part of the inventory of the Army, the Navy and land-based weapon complex for the Indian Air Force.

BRAHMOS is a two-stage missile with a solid propellant booster engine as its first stage which brings it to supersonic speed and then gets separated. The liquid ramjet or the second stage then takes the missile closer to 3 Mach speed in cruise phase. Stealth technology and guidance system with advanced embedded software provides the missile with special features. The missile has a flight range of up to 290 km with supersonic speed all through the flight, leading to shorter flight time, consequently ensuring lower dispersion of targets, quicker engagement time and non-interception by any known weapon system in the world.

BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile featuring Indian propulsion system, airframe, power supply & other major indigenous components, was successfully test-fired at 10:20 AM today from ITR, Chandipur in Odisha. The missile was successfully test-fired for its full range of 290-km.

It's an evolving product so test cycle will continue to validate various updates. 800-km is not yet ready...even the Russians themselves have only just begun process to test their Oniks for that range.

Will require tweaking the primary flight control and ramjet throttle algorithm to control cruise profile fuel consumption in addition to the already validated increase in internal fuel capacity.

Will also need additional weight savings through replacement of certain internal systems with miniaturised ones

We are moving towards 100% indigenous content. It was a stated goal by DRDO 4-5 years ago. I believe V.K Saraswat also mentioned it in an interview at the time.

Indigenous ramjet for brahmos .. working fine. ... is huuuge... Russians were skinning us alive for the seeker and propulsion systems... Crank up the production now... and attach hundreds to Brahmastra corps...
