Right now this would not be a good move. It would be labour, time and resource intensive thing right now. As I have told, the current turret is vulnerable to RPG right now as all other Tanks. But to target the barrel of a tank to take out its most vulnerable part is something which 1 out of a million would try. As of now, instead of going for a change in turret, we should try to make it even more rugged and think of providing some extra protection to it. Changing the whole turret would be a stupid decision as of now. But yeah, we could always come out with a new turret design to address these shortcoming in MKIII.

DRDO should start a pilot project for new turrent which is suitable for all our tank model with existing kanchen armour covered with era and gun scope placed above gun like one k2 or challenger2 which can be use for upgrading old tank t72 and arjun mark 1 and even mark 2 in future

Novel thought, but given the recent budget constraint and the apathy shown towards Indian systems by armed forces, its a very difficult proposition.

Its not a design flaw because the Arjun was not designed with a sloped armour. Hence addition of sloped armour is limited to the sides. Hence its an upgrade limitation.
Adding it to cover the gun and sights would require a redesign of the turret. That would be extremely costly and straining on the logistics.

sloped armor was relevant in the world war two non composite armor days.

With the advent of composite armor , concept of sloped armor died its natural death, not relevant any more.

What you see on the sides of Arjun is shaped ERA , not slopped armor!!!

It is sloped sir .if it is not for slope then why didn't they place era. Parrel to surface which would have saved weight by reduseing era use in armor.sorry slope armour was,is,and will be relevant in armour production

Great information on this thread. What is needed is increase in production of both t90 and arjun. T72 should be replaced as soon as possible.

First is no where near these tanks and still at least 5 ton overweight that Leopard , unsuited for easy transportation

The tank is design under supervision of Indian Army, If Army wanted additional system, It know that it will increase the weight of the tank, If that is how things are then its Army wanted the tank to be 70 tons or more ..

Army knows what`s it doing and how not some journalist idea abt what a tank should ..

What is the weight of M1A2, Merkava, and Leopard 2?

A useless overweight Tank , until they slash off 10 ton weight these wont be inducted.
