I think India should try in the PAK-FA class, atleast Russians are taking the technological challenge while we can go for the frame design and few sub systems rest will be Russian hardwares, after all this is what ADA/HAL all about, and suppose hey fail it can be changed with Russian or if the whole projects became a dud it can be replaced with PAK-FA.

Using the same logic, with MKI, there was no need for Rafales. With F-15s, F-16s are useless. With J-11, J-10s are a wasteful expenditure. With F-22 the F-35 would be a waste of time.

There is a High component and a Low component for an air force. MKI will form our high and Rafale will be our low component. In 15 years, PAKFA will form our high component while AMCA will form the low component.

AMCA is said to be in the 16-18 ton class or the F-16 Block 60 class with 4 tons of internal fuel and 2 tons of internal payload.

Comparatively PAKFA will be in the 32+ tons class with 10 tons of internal fuel and possibly 3 tons of internal payload.

Some French (and some pseudo french) think the Rafale is superior to the MKI, hence we should mention that Rafale will be the high component and MKI the low component. :)

Am i pseudo french? But i thought the same.
Rafale has superior avionics currently because MKI was configured in the 90s while Rafale's configuration has progressed a lot faster in the last few years. MKI has only seen a few upgrades of critical systems, but nothing revolutionary.

However we don't have any Rafale in service. But if you consider capabilities, the MKI is an obvious high end as compared to Rafale.

No matter how advanced the Rafale, the radar has size limitations with it's 600mm array compared to MKI's 960mm array. Apart from that the MKI can stay in the air for long with a full payload of missiles and without having to degrade aerodynamics with drop tanks.

By the time Rafale is in service, we will have begun deliveries of the Super MKI with the Bars AESA, new engine and a host of other unique features.

Regardless China has the right to be worried.

That really depends on how Super 30 comes out. Right now MKI is certainly lower.

mki and rafale are not in same category. mki are heavy and and rafale are medium weight. they both differ in many parameters as a result of this. certainly both are bestowed with different functions and this only the forces knows that which aircraft is better in which field and where they are to be used. this is how we can explain why iaf went for rafales and not mkis. this is the reason why contradicting comments are coming both in favor and against the two best world class fighters sukhoi-30 and rafale

Even if the F-35 is far more advanced than the F-22, the F-22s capabilities are simply of a different breed because of it's design as a Heavy aircraft. Therefore a High-Low component.

Stealth Air-intake Fabrication For AMCA

These are the first official DRDO images of fabrication of compact advanced serpentine air-intakes :thumb:, intended for preliminary studies on performance. The DRDO plans serpentine air intakes on its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and the IUSAV stealth UCAV. Recently posted a new cutaway image of the impression airframe, throwing new light on the aircraft's stealth and design elements. Much more about the AMCA's stealth elements here.

Look like some village plumber did the job, are you sure it is from DRDO?
