Per previous interviews, first flight of prototype will take place 4-4.5 years after CCS approval. 3 years to develop prototype and 1-1.5 years after that for first flight.Thats a depressing thing .....first flight only in 2030....then we expect the flight testing to take atleast 5, even though they are saying it will be just 3 years....so flight testing will complete by 2035 ....that means 1st sqn will enter service only by 2038
future of AMCA-Mk2 is uncertain as of now ....I'm afraid that this program may go Arjun way...
Assuming CDR is approved this year (2023) and CCS approval by end of this year or early next year (2023-2024), prototype roll out in 3 years (2027) and first flight in (2028-2029). Then production of FOC variant in 2031-32 and finally induction in 2033 (first squadron).
Factoring in 2024 general election, CCS approval will either be provided in late 2023 or mid-late 2024 by the new government (Modi or khichdi). If khichdi, this program is fucked.
To summarise (from 2023) :
5.5 years - First Flight
10 years - Induction of first FOC squadron (RFI/RFP/DAC/CCS/Order Signing/IOC/FOC/Test Pilot Manual Creation & Tactics)
So the IAF AMCA (5 th generation) will enter service just as the first USAF NGAD (6th generation) fighter enter service.
The GE F414 EPE engine (116 KN) will be used in Phase 2 for the AMCA which will be a 5.5 generation fighter jet while an AETP technology based engine would be used in the NGAD.
Expect a NGMAF (Next Generation Multirole Fighter Aircraft) programme to be announced by 2030 for 6th generation fighter jets by IAF.
