During the year 2013-14, the R&D divisions at NAL have significantly contributed towards the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programme of Aeronautical Development
Agency (ADA). The R&D efforts led to the new configuration AMCA-3B-08 and a structurally efficient wing layout with four bending attachment brackets and two shear attachment brackets. For the AMCA 3B-08, structural design, analysis and size optimization was carried out to cater for all critical symmetric and un-symmetric load cases. Finite element models were built separately for each of the fuselage segments and then integrated to build a full fuselage finite element model.

AMCA Version 3B-08

Looks very different from the above design, so post 1201 is the latest design update?

Hey GK, it is good to see you back after a long time.

Anyway, yes, I agree with this video. F-35 is a white elephant, and a money sink hole.

The point you guys are missing here is that every new technology is shit!. The reason why all major countries like the US, Russia, China and India, are investing in this is because it can have fruits to bear in the future. Like computer chips, they were crap at first really bulky and expensive and difficult to program ..... but see where they have gone today. Russia and other European countries and the rest of the world, had to pay a heavy price for not investing in computer technology early on, and had to rely on US computer technology, which even today has gaps and can be easily hacked in by the Americans.

this is what a 5mb of memory looked in 1956, people then knew it was crap! too big, too bulky, did little, cost a fortune .................... but they also saw a future.

a) AMCA has entered project definition phase. Six engine OEMs are being evaluated. RFP for engine will be issued in 2015.
b) AMCA will be powered by two 110 KN class engines.
c) IAF fully supports the AMCA program also. And is basically running the UCAV program.
d) Do note however, that AMCA wind tunnel tests actually took place in an American facility.
e) Final configuration has been frozen.

Do we have even tech and experience to build it on our own...
Even if we do we will be relying heavily on other countries in the form of tech support or some major components like Engines....

Are we ready for it??????

How supportive IAF is well known... how supportive they are is no secret....
There are no basis to each and every point you have quoted here .....

Please come out of this 'WE DONT HAVE ENGINE DEVELOPED..SO CAN WE ACHIEVE ANYTHING IN AVIATION' Mindset. There are 1000 of design aspects and Components in a aircraft other than engine and we need to excerl in it as much as we could.

The Tejas are close to 5th generation in many aspects, If we built our own now just like China did, We can have ..

The concerning part is that, It is being tested in America or other country, Until we have our own facilities we cannot archive anything, Remember this that the partners we are working with are our rivals also they will not let AMCA happen ..

I am not comparing us with China and its so called Chinese toys.....
You are absolutely correct abt the concern.....
Our capability is also questionable here.....
because when a thing cannot be done in time it is of no use then....

our people will discard it....

Regarding Tejas .... its a beautiful fighting machine but you can see the status and troubles it is facing....

DRDO needs to develop AMCA within 2020 & induction should start from 2025 into IAF, IAF urgently needs two type of stealth fighters by 2030 as China has already developed two stealth fighters J-20 & J-31 within a very short timespan, there is no guarantee whether India will go for Sukhoi-FGFA or not at last due to some tussle between Russians and Indians. We should focus on LCA Mark-2 & AMCA project first, we have already invested a good amount on Sukhoi-FGFA project, now it is time for AMCA, IAF needs AMCA & Sukhoi-FGFA both in good numbers by 2030, by that time IAF will have a good number of Sukhoi-Super 30(272-360), Dassault Rafale(200), LCA Tejas(160+), Mirage-2000H Mk-3(51) & Jaguar-SL-UPG(148). If Sukhoi-FGFA will start introduction into IAF by 2022, then HAL must make at least 15 aircrafts per year to induct all 127 fighters by 2030, which India will buy now. And at the same time HAL must make 12 AMCA per year if production starts from 2025, then by 2030 IAF will get 60 AMCA out of 250 planned.

Of all the 5th generation engines . Japan would be a good option as they suffer due to their low volume production ... A deal can be made im sure .

All we have spent is just 100 crore on this project till now.But the name MCA or AMCA is floating around from the year 2000 with no concrete action on this project for the past 14 years.

IAF has only given a preliminary requirement and the project beyond just few preparatory steps is yet to start!!!!

Did the IAF and GOI from 2004 to 2014 had any knowledge of the fact that china is proceeding with two 5th gen designs, while we have not even taken baby steps in this crucial 5th gen project?

instead of giving more resources both men and material into this project government of the day chose to keep quiet with out even bothering to build test facilities.

Much worse they let the DRDO workforce to dwindle by putting a ceiling on staff intake citing economical constraints.

IAF too took 10 years from 2004 to 2014 to come with preliminary ASR which was changed three times from 2004 to 2014.

chinese were running many fighter development programs side by side, like J-10 B development, AMCA, a carrier version of flanker, J-20 and J-31 for the past two decades, yet our GOI thought tejas program alone is enough for us!!!

From 2004 onwards when most of the tejas mk1 design was close to final config. AMCA conception and design work could have been taken up side by side , without waiting for the conclusion of tejas like chinese did with their programs.

But our Imperious chair marshals who advice us just an year before tejas FOC to radically redesign the tejas with twin engines as course correction(which is nothing but a veiled attempt to close down the program!!!), have kept a deafening silence on the delay in the starting of this crucial 5th gen stealth program.

All they want is closure of tejas and a straight buy of rafale, their eyes can't see beyond that. According to these Vayu-stratpost round table guys things like AMCA , FGFA are not even in the realm of future. All they are prepared to blow out is close the tejas, and nothing more!!!!

what is applaing is the lack of the sense of urgency in part of government, iaf, drdo regarding amca programme.had they shown some urgency in the past 2 decade amca prototypes would have been flying today getting ready for induction.instead only the design is getting finalized now and the engine situation is going to be a repeat of the lca programme.

Solution is simple,,what i proposed above.

We cannot match a 9 trillion economy growing at 7%.

What was needed was smart choice and pakfa stage 1 was much much better for considering our paltry growth rate of 5% now.
We simply cannot start inducting 3-4 new frames at the same time.
