How long the LCA has been in the pipelines? How long will it remain there ? When is it even going to be inducted ? Why did we decide to develop a plane all by ourselves when at that point of time we knew that our economy could not support it ? ( after 1991 Globalization, liberalization, things were different)

I hear we were offered the chance to co-develop and produce the MiG35 back in the 90's, and it was suggested as replacement for the MiG21's. Why didn't we jump into it ?

It's ok spilled milk! At least now we could scrap the AMCA and co-develop the ngfa with another nation. Why not merge it with the F35.

Why didn't we just added Russian RD-33 for LCA and same radar used for Bison back at mid and late 90s ?

American engine and western radar selection got most of the time, Sanctions played their part here more....

LCA still prototype coz we wanted it as a prototype, Other countries induct home made fighters even the are bit inferior which can be deal in short time via up-gradations..

Unlike in Indian MOD & IAF top brass prefer top notch present generation fighter in short time, thats why we still stuck with prototypes...

There is no news of AMCAVfrom last one year..;the project is on sheduled or we canceled it?
We are waiting for the negotiations with MRCA vendors to get over and would start working on basis of what we can get from them and what we can integrate in them.

the last words i heard on amca from drdo officials was that they hope to fly it by 2030. so i hope that either this project will be shelved forever once semi-Indian fgfa and other planes comes into field it will be initiated with modifications. GSQR will change from time to time so irrespective of the timeline, resources devoted, consultation sought, amca will be called obsolete when it will first be flown

More information will be out after the feasibility study is completed. It will depend primarily on how well the LCA Mk2 progresses.

We can team up with many countries if we have to go for this fighter, namely Saab or EADS. ADA chairman has openly suggested a partner may be required. We can have Snecma for engines, Israel for radar and electronics and Saab or EADS as the primary design partner for the airframe.

The AMCA is not easy at all and will possibly make LCA look like a cupcake. Look at how much the Americans are struggling with the F-35, even with their level of experience and funding. IAF requirements will probably even outclass F-35.

Edit: Considering HAL, NAL, ADA and IAF are currently building Anechoic chambers all over the country, a AMCA will happen.

Why not build a joint effort with Lockheed Martin on the F35 ? Can't our operational requirements be modified in order to meet the objectives of the AMCA ?

Not possible. It may have been possible in early 2000, now it's only a buyer seller relationship. The aircraft is nearly done. We would be foolish to get into such a big deal so early into the program and when it is facing so many problems.

We may team up with LM on AMCA, so we don't know what will happen.

Japan and Indonesia are going to build a 5th gen aircraft. So, we may go for a country to country deal too, perhaps with France or Russia, maybe even Israel or a combination of all 3. Heck we may simply go it alone as usual. Too early to say anything, even for ADA.

I think AMCA is a Longshot and it will be converted into some other plane. It will start as 5th generation and with delay it will be 5.25 generation at the time of induction and India will be buying 6th gen plane from some other country.

Well, going by DRDO standards, If I see someday that AMCA has turned into SGCA (Sixth Generation Combat Aircraft) by 2020 with nary a development timeframe in sight, I will not be surprised.

IAF is a bit busy with MMRCA , also the latest being that it wants more PAK-FA and less of FGFA. I dunno whether AMCA will ever even make it out of drawing board

around 150+ PAK-FA and around 50 FGFA, so maybe they will make AMCA to add more numbers...only time will tell...or maybe they will go with F-35
