Any one who thinks he US is slipping is not thinking straight, they have been working on things under various off the book budgets for decades. No one really knows the extent of tech leap they have over all nations. For all we know they have been playing with alien tech for decades as well. No other nation allocates the same amount of money, time or matter in such areas. What we see and know is a mere fragment.

While that is true one has to remember the limits of USA too.
1. New technology are very time and cost consuming for the first mover but for followers it's much cheaper and easier. Case in point stealth - USA poured enormous fund to chose preferable shape for Stealth jet. But the other just saw the US jets and made a safe bet of copying geometric Stealth as preferable shape.
Saved them ( including us) a lot of money and time .

2. USA standard of living make everything much more expensive. In their research institutions they are probably paying their janitors and drivers much more money than we pay to our scientists. There was a comparison of USA budget with Russia china on ppp basis. The difference narrowed substantially.
What Americans do for a billion dollars we can probably manage the same for 200-300 million.

Yes, absolutely. India has vast Technology base in defence. India makes its own radars, satellite, rockets, missiles, older generation semiconductor (enough for defence), Al31F engine, communication equipment and has vast source codes from development for decades.

Turkey has almost none of these. So, it is just starting to build things from scratch. Till now, Turkey only assembled goods made in EU or US and worked as assembly hub due to cheaper labour and geopolitical requirement of Turkey to NATO in containing Russia and maintaining Bosphorous. But Turkey built no important Technology. Not even high end car engine is made in Turkey.

Domestic market and other things are irrelevant. Russia doesn't sell Su57 in domestic market to its civilian population!

Russia simply has developed the Technology base by research over 70 years, right from WW2. So, it has the knowledge accumulated and the feedbacks and minute details of problems recorded. As a result, Russia can build military items with relative ease. Russia always focused on MIC from USSR days and this MIC served as the major employment for all highly intelligent people. Even now, Russian MIC is filled with the top brains of Russia.

The combination of years of trial and error and feedbacks obtained from thousands of experiments, Russia has developed a vast database of knowledge and Technology. Combined with the talented people working there, Russia can develop excellent military equipment.

Economy has no relationship in development of military Technology. Only thing a country must have are - Intelligent and reasonable government (Islamists are unreasonable) and enough natural resources so as to be able to have self sufficiency in leading moderately comfortable lifestyle without allowing for external sabotage.

Things like diversification of economy, large economy, market etc are unnecessary.
Turkey is a Muslim country so inheritantly a shitty country with not sufficient brain for high tech work.

To make AMCA possible we need lot of experience in making it truly 5th generation fighter.
First we need is a basic air frame with no sensors or any thing just to prove its capabilities.
Second we add can rope in french or israel for the sensors, data processing and sensor fusion
Once the plane is matured then we can add or change any sensors according to our wish.

That's not the way we indians normally tidy things up. These people just like to manufacture a big tree instead of nurturing it from the nursery.

YF23 lost to YF22 aka F22 ,there might be reasons it lost??
YF-23 is the next big thing and in fact it is even more optimized for stealth than F-22. Notice that both British and Franco-German projects look more like YF-23 than F-22, most probably optimizing stealth than traditional air maneuvering capabilities.

Although, i don't know if the US government will agree to selling YF-23 tech even if it's already 30 years old.

Why not work with US and Northrop to adopt the YF-23 airframe for AMCA?
Why will India get USA design? India has to make new technology development according to base technology available. If India gets design from USA, then the requirement for different base technology will cause problems. The development process is not discrete event but is a combination of other development. So, it is not possible to simply get YF23 design from USA without getting other Technology. USA may give design but is unlikely to give any Technology. So, it is wasteful to get YF23

There is nothing to be gained for India by asking for YF23 tech. India is already developing stealth tech for Ghatak UCAV. Same will be used for AMCA. The current AMCA design anyways borrows heavily from YF23.

Seeing US treatment of turkey, India should continue its current strategy of buying only niche US equipment that cannot be brought from anywhere else and that too in small numbers. India will never buy equipment critical to its defence needs from US.

Sensor fusion is already in works . Lca mk1a will have limited sensor fusion. Mwf will have full sensor fusion like rafale and AMCA will incorporate those technologies.

Airframe needs geometric shape and outward sensors like ols , flir , targeting pods etc have to be baked into that stealth shape so it is not very easy.

biggest challenge is engine of optimal thrust. F414 is good for prototype and initial batch but ultimately 110kn class engine is required to super cruise and supermanuver.

Combine geometric shape and 110kn class engine with rafale spectra like sensor fusion and you have an AMCA on par with f35!

Other than 110kn engine we are pretty capable of other parts of AMCA development.

We have already designed the Stealth frame of AMCA so no point in copying US airframe.

Next step is to manufacture that which has been designed.

It's always easier if you can have a developed design to start from than start from scratch. Just ask the Soviets how they developed their Mig15.
