1. Both projects are developing in Parallel.
2. Tejas MK2 development is way ahead of AMCA.
3. Scientists uses the know how and experience gained with Tejas , in AMCA.
This might be too bad to ditch a project at it Advanced stage.
Well there is still sharing of resources...instead pool all your resources into one..that will help you complete the project sooner.

Tejas MK2 is the actual demand of IAF.
So, to scrap Tejas MK2 Project will be a huge setback for developing agency.
Aircraft development doesn't mean to pool the whole crowd into a single project is very similar to the wastage of resources available.

There are many technologies which are under development for AMCA are tested on Tejas and others. The team is learning to build something good. The perfection will be shown on mk2 AMCA but they should do it slight faster.

Seems very much possible...all they need to do is to finalize the engine fast and use existing technology on fifth generation airframe.
See that's too vague .
There is no info in the public domain on how much work is complete leave aside the engines.
We have no stealth tech. We are struggling to increase dimensions of Tejas.
How can u think we can master even the basic Stealth Tech which only a few countries in the world have ?
2022 is not a ideal timeline for even the first flight.

A fifth generation fighter aircraft has a stealthy airframe that is quite different from a 4++ generation one. That is the basic stealth technology a fifth gen fighter aircraft has. Even a moron will tell us that AMCA airframe is a stealthily designed. Next is all about RAM coating. Even a 4++ generation fighter aircraft is RAM coated nowadays. Then engine, radar, ew, weapons etc etc etc. Even the pakfa doesn't have a true fifth gen engine. Chinese so called fifth gen fighters also don't have the right engine. If ADA has the determination, willpower, dedication, sincerity and support from the govt and the end user, definitely the time line is justified.

We can start with just the airframe whose design is finalized and develop iteratively.

The problem with most Indian weapon development project is improper scope and expectation management..overpromising and having over ambitious targets.
Think of the Kaveri engine project..a country with no engine development experience taking up a fighter engine development program - even if we make huge academic and technical advances..the project will fail.
Same with AMCA..our second fighter plane is supposed to be as good as F22/F35n one go..these type of expectations only disappoint.
If IAF backs the fighter, it will be a success. We are willing to fly the Jaguar till 2035..so all that is needed is the IAF's backing
Regarding timelines, design has been Freezed - so a 1.1. scale mock-up can buy done within 2 years..

We are developing our RAM technology..refusal of the French to part with that technology was one of the reasons Rafale deal broke.

@Kay. You and I have the same view point buddy. And thanks for the information that RAM coating technology is developing in house. what we need now is a flying testbed. IAF just can't buy all stuff they need of the self all the time. We should follow the example of Russian, Chinese or even Japanese way of developing a fifth gen fighter aircraft.

The main tech which is still away from India for AMCA is "internal Weapon Bay" otherwise with very less efforts we can have all the techs.
I prefer the first flight of the AMCA with presently available technologies and avionics. We can further Upgrade the remaining things as per tests requirements.

Even first flight of AMCA will pose a great effect over our enemies.

@TPFscopes @FactsPlease. Both of you are absolutely right. The first flight of AMCA not only will pose great effects on our enemy, but also AMCA haters will feel the jitters down their spines. Moreover, many technologies will be offering on a platter by those who love business. Look at the LCA Tejas development, while it was romping home towards FOC, everything was on offer.

I am a strong supporter for this project....but the project is getting mishandled just like the LCA. I wanted the navy to lead this project instead of the airforce and I would like to see 2 versions namely a single engine version and a double engine version of the AMCA.

I am not particularly excited by AMCA. As it will be repeat of Arjun/LCA saga. Why? Where is the urgency to invest in establishing Gas Turbine facilities? Where is the Engine Flying Test bed? Tamilmani himself earlier stated that if the decision is taken now it will take 10000 crores of investment and 10 years of development time(which seems a very optimistic time frame given India is no France/Russia in terms of engine development capability & experience). I am miffed by ADA/GTRE, because when Manohar Parrikar was Defence Minister why they did not lobby hard for establishing more complete testing facilities? Even if france comes, GTRE will have ti still grapple with question of Flying Engine Test Bed.

It is apparent India needs to buy an IL-76 for its own testing purposes. Since Russia is unwilling to lease one when they have hundreds laying around then India needs to approach FSU states with IL-76 and refurbish it in Ukraine. To be denied by so called allies Russia has shown its contempt for domestication of Indian defence products. When India makes its next Rafale order one of the offsets could be construction of ground based testing facilities to complete the triad of testing excellence.
