AFAIK

Astra mk2 is dual pulse motor based BVRAAM. It will be a enhanced Astra mk1 in all operational parameters

SFDR based BVRAAM is a totally different BVRAAM and will come after Astra mk2.

But let's wait and see
This is more likely. Dual pulse motor is already ready with NGARM . Indegenios seeker is ready.

It can come very fast as it needs minimal changes. Just like Israel went from basic derby to derby ER . 50 km range derby became 100km + derby ER with additional motor.

Astra mk1 is already at 80-110 km. So mk2 with additional propulsion can go upto 150-160 km.

Israel claims derby ER gives 80% of meteor performance for third of cost .
Astra mk2 will give 85-90% of meteor performance at similar or lower cost than derby ER.

Indian Army to buy 2000 Akash 1S Surface to Air Missiles Soon

According to Defence analysts, Saurav Jha. Indian Army has plans to soon place orders for 2 Akash 1S regiments – approximately 2,000 missiles – worth over ?14,000 crores ($3.1 billion). Akash-1S is a medium-range Surface to Air Missile with multitarget engagement capability and comes with an indigenously developed seeker for much more effective Target engagement in Kill Zone. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) which is the Production house for manufacturing Akash surface-to-air missile system for Indian Army and Indian Air Force already has secured license & tech transfer agreements for the indigenous seeker from DRDO and the missile system already has completed its developmental trials where it has demonstrated its capabilities by successfully engaging various targets. BDL has production capabilities of 100 Akash Missiles per month and Akash 1S with Seeker has seen particular interests from Vietnam which is in talks with India for its export and local manufacturing in the country. The Akash-1S is capable of striking down enemy fighter jets and drones very effectively and accurately. The Akash surface-to-air missile was designed to intercept enemy aircraft and missiles from a distance of 18 to 30 km. Akash-1S system has been designed and developed for the Indian Army based on their requirements and will replace the Vintage Soviet Era SA-6 surface-to-air missile system. Indian Army already operates 2 Akash Mk1 regiments which were recently in the news when the Indian Army moved in a few Akash Mk1 surface-to-air missile systems close to Galwan Valley due to recent LAC standoff with PLA Troops in the area.

Cabinet Approves Export of Akash Missile System and Creates a Committee for faster Approval of Exports

Under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat, India is growing in its capabilities of manufacturing wide variety of Defence platforms and missiles. Akash is country’s important missile with over 96 percent indigenisation.

Akash is a Surface to Air Missile with a range of 25 Kms. The missile was inducted in 2014 in IAF and in 2015 in Indian Army.

After its induction in the Services, interest is shown in Akash missile by many friendly countries during International Exhibitions/Def Expo/Aero India. The Cabinet approval will facilitate Indian manufactures to participate in RFI/RFP issued by various countries.

So far, Indian defence exports included parts/components etc. The export of big platforms was minimal. This initiative of the Cabinet would help the country to improve its defence products and make them globally competitive.

The export version of Akash will be different from System currently deployed with Indian Armed Forces.

Besides Akash, there is interest coming in other major platforms like Coastal Surveillance System, Radars and Air platforms. To provide faster approvals for export of such platforms, a Committee comprising of Raksha Mantri, External Affairs Minister and National Security Advisor has been created.

This Committee would authorise subsequent exports of major indigenous platforms to various countries. The Committee would also explore various available options including the Government-to-Government route.

Government of India intends to focus on exporting high value defence platforms, to achieve target of 5 Billion USD of defence export and improve strategic relations with friendly foreign countries.

Generation' (Akash-NG) missile from a defence facility off Odisha coast on Monday.

BHUBANESWAR: In a major milestone in the ongoing surface-to-air missile (SAM) programme, India successfully conducted the first test of 'Akash-Next Generation' (Akash-NG) missile from a defence facility off Odisha coast on Monday.

Defence sources said the missile was launched from a mobile platform positioned at the Launching Complex - III of the Integrated Test Range at about 2.30 pm against an electronic target.

A defence official from New Delhi said that all the mission objectives had been met and the missile system had performed as expected. "The mission was 100 per cent successful as the missile intercepted the electronic target as simulated. The missile will significantly bolster India's air defence system," he said.

The successful maiden test of surface-to-air Akash-NG assumed significance as it came a few days after the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its go-ahead to the export of Akash missile systems to friendly countries.

Developed by DRDO, the weapon system can handle multiple targets and destroy manoeuvring targets like cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and fighter aircraft.

Flying at a supersonic speed it is capable of killing both subsonic and supersonic targets. The new Akash system can defend an area of at least 10 times better compared to any short-range SAM and is capable of engaging up to 10 targets near simultaneously.

While the earlier variant of the missile has a maximum range of 30 km and can travel up to an altitude of 20 km, the Akash-NG can strike targets up to 70 km away.

The two-stage new generation missile has a cylindrical body with four cropped delta fins at mid-body and four tail fins. Apart from the new propulsion system, it possesses indigenous active RF seeker, laser proximity fuse, electro-mechanical actuation and pre-fragmented warhead.

The new system comes with an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) multi-function radar that features all three functions - search, track and fire control in one platform. The earlier version, which is in service, is guided by a phased array fire control radar, said the defence official.

Akash is India’s first indigenously designed, developed and produced air defence system capable of engaging aerial threats. It is the cheapest surface to air missile ever produced in the world with supersonic powered intercept.

With a command guidance system and multiple targets handling features, automated air defence operations, Akash stands out unique amongst the available short /medium range SAMs.

The development of the Akash-NG was approved in September 2016 with the funding support of around ₹500 crore.

It further stated that the missile intercepted the target with textbook precision and the launch met all test objectives by performing high manoeuvres during the trajectory. "Performance of the Command and Control system, onboard avionics and aerodynamic configuration of the missile was successfully validated," it added.

The missile launch came on the eve of Republic Day celebrations in the country.

DRDO to have 2 tableaux at R-Day parade

This time, the DRDO will have two tableaux at Republic Day parade - one showcasing light combat aircraft Tejas' successful take-off from the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya in 2020, and another displaying full complement of anti-tank guided missile systems.

The second tableau will showcase its third generation fire and forget missile NAG, helicopter-launched missile HELINA, a man-portable anti-tank missile with a range of 2.5 km, another anti-tank missile SANT and laser-guided missile for Arjun tank called ATGM, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

"DRDO has been showcasing advanced defence technology products for tri-services at Rajpath on Republic Day every year. Delivering on its mandate of development of state of the art defence systems, DRDO once again has brought two important tableaux to the prestigious Republic Day parade 2021. Showcasing the major achievements of the year, are LCA Navy take-off and landing on board the aircraft carrier and the complete family of Anti Tank Guided Missiles," read an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on Sunday.

Successful Maiden Test Launch of Akash-NG Missile

DRDO conducted the successful maiden launch of Akash-NG (New Generation) Missile from Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha on 25 January 2021. Akash-NG is a new generation Surface to Air Missile meant for use by Indian Air Force with an aim of intercepting high maneuvering low RCS aerial threats.

The missile intercepted the target with text book precision. The launch met all the test objectives by performing high maneuvers during the trajectory. The performance of the Command and Control system, onboard avionics and aerodynamic configuration of the missile was successfully validated during the trial. During the test launch, entire flight path of the missile was monitored and the flight data was captured by various Range instruments such as Radar, EOTS and Telemetry systems deployed by ITR, Chandipur. The Multi Function Radar was tested for its capability of integration with the system.

The Akash-NG system has been developed with better deployability compared to other similar systems with canisterized launcher and much smaller ground system footprint. The test launch was carried out by a combined team of DRDO, BDL & BEL in the presence of the representatives of Indian Airforce.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh congratulated the scientists from DRDO, BEL and team from Indian Air Force for this achievement. Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr. G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team for the successful flight trial of Akash NG Missile.

This is Desi MRSAM with a big punch per buck compared to MRSAM. It is guided by a state of art AESA radar though it may fell short of Radar and seeker of MRSAM.

This is going to be a great addition to our defense with 70 to 80 KM range is very good. Particularly, Porkies will feel a great heat. This can be carried with a battle group which is a very important block of Cold start. So I would say that our cold start doctrine is getting a very important component for execution.

If its state of the art then it should match or exceed right.

Can someone properly compare akash ng and barak 8 . With authentic data if any available.
Motor is same ,range is also same. Barak 8 has 98 pc Kill probability and Akash NG too have 90% + kill probability though exact figure is not known to me. Akash NG is guided by state of art AESA radar. Barak 8 has multi mission radar capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously. Akash NG has AESA radar with the capability of detecting and engaging multiple targets. Barak 8 has a high accuracy radio frequency seeker. AKASH NG has a RF seeker based if I am not wrong. Barak 8 is a very well known and best missile of the class. Akash NG is not operational yet so difficult to get as much information as MR SAM.

Akash NG has an optical RF seeker compared to standard RF seeker on the MRSAM, so I would go so far as to say Akash NG seeker is more advanced and jam proof compared to MRSAM.
