T-34C Crashes At Sea Near Corpus Christi, No Reports of Injuries

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (NNS) -- A U.S. Navy T-34C Turbo Mentor aircraft assigned to Training Squadron 28 (VT-28) with two pilots aboard crashed today while conducting a routine training mission over the Gulf of Mexico at approximately 10:20 a.m., CST. Initial reports indicate the pilots were able to bail out of the aircraft, and that neither pilot was injured. They are being evaluated at a local hospital. Both crew members were recovered by U.S. Coast Guard Search and Rescue personnel. An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the crash.

Crash of Lao air force An-74 kills 20

A Lao air force Antonov An-74 TK-300 crashed while on final approach to Laos's Xieng Khoang Airport on Saturday 17 May. Media reports indicate that all 20 passengers and crew died in the crash. A statement by the official Lao News Agency confirmed that four high-ranking officials were among the casualties, including the nation's deputy prime minister, who was also the country's defence minister. The crash occurred at 07:00 local time in a densely forested area. The aircraft had taken off from Laos's capital, Vientiane. The registration of the aircraft is believed to be RDPL-34020, bearing manufacturer serial number 36547098982, according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database. The aircraft's build year was 2009. The TK-300 variant o the AN-74 varies from other An-74s in that it's two Lotarev D-36 engines are mounted on pylons beneath the wings, compared with type's typical over-wing configuration. Antonov claims that the new configuration decreases fuel burn and improves range. It can carry up to 10 tonnes of cargo or 52 passengers.

All 7 aboard small jet killed in crash at US air base in Massachusetts

BOSTON: All seven people aboard a small private jet were killed when the plane crashed and caught fire in a wooded area while taking off from an air force base in Massachusetts, US authorities said today. The Gulfstream IV jet was taking off yesterday from the Hanscom air force base when it ran into a wooded area. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane apparently caught fire, and photos appearing on social media purporting to be of the crash site show flames and smoke. All seven aboard the jet died, CNN quoted Sharon Williams, director of Hanscom Field airport, as saying. She did not give the names of the deceased. Officials said the private aircraft that was heading to Atlantic City, New Jersey. Fire department rescuers responded to the scene of the crash early today. Airport operations have been shut down. Nearby residents recounted seeing a fireball and feeling the blast of the explosion shake their homes, local media reported. Hanscom Field is a joint military and civilian facility located 32 km outside of Boston. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating and will determine the cause of the accident, said Jim Peters, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport is regularly used by corporations for travel and also as a secondary airport to Boston's Logan International Airport.

MOSCOW: At least 16 people were missing after a helicopter believed to be carrying top regional officials and businessmen crashed into a lake in northwestern Russia, police and the emergencies ministry said on Sunday. According to preliminary information, the Mi-8 helicopter was carrying up to 19 people- five crew and 14 passengers-when it crashed in a remote area in the northwestern Murmansk region on Saturday, a regional police spokeswoman said. "Yes, indeed the helicopter is in a lake," the spokeswoman told AFP. Two people were injured and hospitalised and the rest are considered missing, she added, noting that emergencies officials were looking for survivors. According to a separate statement from the emergencies ministry, the helicopter was carrying 18 people, including five crew. The helicopter belongs to a company called Apatit (Apatite), maker of components for fertilisers, a spokeswoman for the regional emergencies ministry, Tatyana Zakharova, told AFP. Investigators named a possible aircraft malfunction and bad weather as likely causes of the crash. Aviation crashes are frequent in Russia and are often blamed on ageing aircraft and poor maintenance.

Two Pilots Killed in Pakistan Plane Crash

ISLAMABAD: Two Pakistan Air Force (PAF) pilots were killed Tuesday when their Mirage trainer aircraft crashed after exploding in mid-air, a media report said. The crash took place in Baldia town near Karachi and injured many on the ground, Dawn online reported. Eyewitnesses said that the plane exploded mid-air. Three buses caught fire as the aircraft's debris spread far and wide and a number of nearby buildings were damaged. The crash reportedly took place due to a technical failure.

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- A U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 81 based at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Va., impacted the water during an approach to USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) at approximately 10 p.m. PST on June 4 while operating off the coast of Southern California. The pilot ejected from the aircraft, was recovered safely and is currently aboard Carl Vinson in stable condition. The F/A-18E Super Hornet has not been recovered. All remaining airborne aircraft were safely diverted to NAS North Island in Coronado, Calif., landing at approximately 11 p.m. PST. All air operations have ceased aboard Carl Vinson until further notice. A safety investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the mishap. Carl Vinson and embarked Carrier Air Wing 17 are currently underway conducting Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX). JTFEX is designed to test a strike group's ability to operate in hostile and complex environments with other U.S. and coalition forces. The integrated exercise combines specific warfare areas with the purpose of making preparations for the strike group's upcoming deployment.

PACE, Fla. (NNS) -- A mishap involving a Training Air Wing FIVE TH-57 Sea Ranger helicopter occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. CDT on June 5 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field's Navy Outlying Landing Field Spencer in Pace, Fla. Both student and instructor have been released from a local hospital, where they underwent routine evaluation for minor injuries. The incident is currently under investigation.

China's naval jet crashes during training mission



BEIJING (PTI): A Chinese navy fighter jet crashed during an exercise over a mountain area in the eastern Zhejiang province. The jet crashed on June 5 near the city of Yiwu, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. The aircraft was a fighter-bomber JH-7 "Flying Leopard". The navy aircraft from the Donghai Fleet of the Chinese navy crashed during tactical training courses, officials said. There was no collateral damage. Military officials did not say how many people were on board. The JH-7 typically carries two.
