I told him Tejas Mk1A is more comparable to JF 17
AFAIK Mk1 exceeds JFT in everything from MTOW to avionics despite its smaller size.
Mk1 A is far fetched.
China will always be ahead of India and will equip Pakistan for it to be ahead of Indian
Too bad China didn't equip Pak with best one. Pakistan barely could purchase any fighter in good numbers given its pathetic economy. JF-17 is affordable air power, not potent air power. It's more similar to a beefed MiG-21 (in fact JFT is based on Chinese F-7) which itself is a copy of MiG-21.
It couldn't pass an Indian RFI even in 1995. Just as any Indian fighter inducted after 1990s can't fit in Pakistani budget exceeded 20 nos. JFT is a vintage fighter rebuilt for poor countries whether Pakistanis like it.
JF 17 is more comparable with Tejas Mk2 which is "reverse engineered"
Tejas Mk2 is re-engineered Tejas Mk1 and a medium weight fighter in F-16V/J-10C category. JF-17 lies in class of MiG-21 Bison which India is no longer acquiring, closing the case.
Pakistanis may be making noise as acquiring sizable air power is a new and exciting thing for them. But kind of fleet and missiles they have is vintage and small by standards of any middle power, in fact a joke in front Egypt or KSA, leave alone India.
they can just buy more J10CEs.
Buying is not a
just can in case of Pakistan. They have either to beg for aid, buy second-hand, lend their @$$ or buy in abysmally small numbers.
Purchasing J10C when you already have F-16V is anyway something beyond we can understand.
