Few months back: Maiden flight is scheduled for late 2023

Now:

Tejas Mk-2 roll out delayed to Dec 2023
There is a video in the article where the project director hinted about the delay
It looks like it's true from what HVT sir said

There is a video in that article.....Project Director said that Development cum Production will happen simultaneously.....listen carefully he said that 3rd Prototype and 1st Serial Production Aircraft will rollout at the same time i.e production will start before 2027

Isn't that super risky?? What if some major issues arise and the first production variant has already been delivered then will they recall it?

From what I understood
1 & 2 prototypes are IOC standard and the 3 & 4 Prototypes are FOC standard.

Dec 2023 - 1st Prototype - IOC standard

Dec 2024 - 2nd Prototype - IOC standard

By Dec 2025 IOC certification will be completed using Prototype 1 & 2, thus

Dec 2026 - 1st SP aircraft - IOC standard will roll out

Dec 2026 - 3rd Prototype - FOC- Flight testing continues

Dec 2027 - 4th Prototype -FOC

These timelines are not bad imo

Jan 2021:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=G30L78MSdQk&t=264s

The singular fact that even the PD of Tejas Mk2 got his timetable horribly wrong ("Tejas Mk2 will roll out by August 2022") just re-inforces why IAF has little faith in such pompous announcements & is harping on MRFA. I am with the service on this one.

It does nothing good for the reputation of ADA/DRDO as well.

Back in the day, ADA chief said there are no unknowns on this one- does anyone know why the project is on such a slippery slope?

Possible. Metal cutting has started. Some reports said some parts are already delivered. It’s either Ada found some design issues or they were waiting for the money just released by MoD. It’s criminal negligence considering our pilots are dying and mk2 project has been saying design is complete since 2021

If the date for the Tejas Mk2 to go into mass production is still the same, i.e. 2027 then I guess its not that a big of issue as we are making it out to be.
If that date slips, then its a major problem.

How is it possible that they are maintaining induction timeline at 2027
But reducing testing and other certification timings
Will iaf be happy
I think even induction will get delayed
Bcoz they can't test everything in 2 years

If designing was completed then what major issues did they find that it might take 1 year

What ? ADA building their own AF ?
Prototype & lsp are similar aircrafts and after 6~7 years, IAF starts getting Mk2.

Hand to heart- do you yourself believe it?

These are all just lollipops! Come AI'27- "We can start production only by 2029 saar! Why you ask? Because still haven't finished testing LSPs." We will get administered doses of hopium two years at a time.

If ADA/DRDO are honest about it and say there is a substantial delay may be IAF can put up a case for additional Mk1A before MoD to prevent the line and skill sets from idling away for too long- but no! pragmatism has totally escaped our MIC even with China staring down at our borders.

How is it possible that they are maintaining induction timeline at 2027
By pulling a rabbit out of their behinds. With you on this one.

Is there any precedence to such a thing anywhere in the world- where they could stick to the production schedule despite being casual with the testing schedule?

These are the words of the Project Director, not me
These words are Project Director's, not mine
PD also said roll out by August 2022. Tragicomic..

From 1st to 4tn are lsp & used by ADA/HAL for testing.
Question is when IAF receive 1st sqn, may by 2030.

All these are for ADA, not for IAF.
ADA need 4 to 10 jets, HAL need 2.
IAF order comes in later stages, but when MoD order them is a big question ?
Good news, IAF can order additional mk1a/b.

ADA said there will be only 4 aircrafts in entire development stage of Mk-2
1 & 2 IOC standard, 3 & 4 FOC standard...

And let me repeat again what PD said, 1st Air Force Serial Production Aircraft will roll out around the time of 3rd Prototype

3rd LSP & 1st SP will roll out around same time, this is what Project Director said
for ADA,& they even 100% sure when mk2 going to take first flight, and there is no way they can predict IAF order, and HAL don't start making SP without large order[from mod]. They change sp into lsp later.
