LCA Tejas Naval makes maiden flight successfully
Bangalore: The Light Combat Aircraft Tejas's naval version NP-1 made a successful 28 minute flight today. DRDO spokesperson said that the flight took off at 12.05 PM and landed without a hitch.

The flight was witnessed by Indian Air force chief Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma, DRDO Chief Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Chairman HAL chairman R K Tyagi and Director of Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) P S Subramanyam.

The NP-1 underwent engine test trials in September 2011. The Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC), sometime last week, gave its clearance for High Speed Taxi Trial (HSTT) and flight.

Test flight envelope of 20 minutes is standard on maiden flight, only god knows what DDMites are trying to say with CLEARED ONLY FOR 20 MINUTES OF FLIGHT TIME.

Yes, it is seriously a very beautiful looking bird,, much better in looks than compared to the airforce LCA because of that beautiful drooped nose.
Hey guys, does any one else also see so much resemblence between NLCA and a sparrow or is it just my imagination. I definitely feel its nose and cannopy does look like a sparrow, specially its nose excatly like a sparrows beak.....they should call it sparrow.

Since N-LCA MK-1 has been restricted to TD status success of first flight lies in their ability to speedily complete first block of tests. Testing LEVCON in entire envelope is crucial for MK-2 progress(interestingly for both AF and N version) apart from that a comprehensive data about landing gear should be generated in haste so that work on new landing gear can start early and reach maturation with sufficient time in reserve insuring that MK-2 never faces this issue ever. Furthermore, since NP-2 is to get a refined/enlarged air intake flying it asap becomes an utmost necessity as test data generated by it will be used in designing NLCA-MK2.

LCA Navy prototype completes maiden flight

The naval prototype (NP-1) of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) completed a glitch-free 21-minute maiden flight here on Friday, after almost two years since its roll out on July 6, 2010.
The aircraft which was scheduled to take off at 10 am was delayed by two hours and ten minutes with bad weather preventing the sortie. At 12.08 pm the LCA"ˆTejas (IAF version) screamed past the runway, taking off into the skies amid whistles and cheers but that was only the chase aircraft.
While this is India's first indigenous effort to build a carrier-borne naval fighter, it is the second STOBAR aircraft in the world. The Russian deck-based aircraft is the first. The LCA Navy though is only a light category carrier-borne fighter.

The aircraft became airborne and reached an elevation of 10,000 feet above the sea level at 450 kmph and flew about 30-km from the base before returning for the landing.
Maolankar said that they carried out various checks and observations during the sortie and that a lot of data has been collected, which will now be analysed

Where is the hook and its look like a trainer.....
They might retrofit it latter. Though these are severe concerns about thrust and one shouldn't not surprised if NP-1 is barred even from orientation tests at SBTF, restricting it to flight tests only.
