If yes, what is the harm in a few SF men being employed for this purpose. Does that degrade SF who are ready to be provide as part of NSG doing much lower status jobs?

Does it deserves to be made an issue ?
You are conflating things.

The NSG that are used to provide VVIP protection are from SRG- all recruited form CAPFs. No army personnel and hence no SF serve in SRG, army recruits only go into SAG.

Anyway NSG is gradually being taken away from VVIP protection duties anyway. Today only about 11 people are covered by them and this is being drawn down.

It is utterly ridiculous to be justifying SF operators being used for such a task (COAS protection). It is a waste of their skills and training.

This is something military police should be doing only, not the elite of the elite.
It is akin to using a Ferrari as an Uber car in mumbai's monsoon. Just because its got 4 wheels and classifies as a car doesnt mask the fact that is an utter waste of resources and money.

Strange are the ways of India ~

Provision of Security to COAS is wrong.
Raising a new corps fo that is right.

About half of SF forces are acceptable to be in NSG for police jobs. NSG can be employed to give protection to mother of Robert Vadra. but protecting your Chief is wrong and derogatory.

Stupid arguments.

It is an authorised job and must have had appropriate sanction. It is not for you or me to question it. It is not for SF to decide what their job is. Any one in the Armed Forces would be proud to that.

Khalas .....
You seem to appear like a "Who are we to question Army and its internal matters ?" guy. Let me remind you this is a defence forum were things pertaining to defence are discussed. Come out of your condescension.

It is better to use Ferrari as a taxi in its spare time than allow it to rust in the garage.

@Bhadra has put forth a valid point. Our definition of 'commando' is this :

Let us get some things clear.

The purpose for which NSG was created is not the job of Army SF. Or otherwise why create a separate organisation with a job description that does not fall within the ambit of Army. Otherwise the govt of the day would have just authorised raising three SF battalions and handed over the task to Army. The NSG as defined by NSG Act is a "Security Guard" and everyone therein are "Security Guards" albeit glorified security guards. Anyone having some very high notions about it may please read NSG Act. It will do some good to them.

Hostage rescue and anti hijacking operations is not at all Army's job and Army personnel being used for it speaks of lack of appropriate personnel in the Police Forces rather than make such tasks that of Army's responsibility. Army personnel on deputation with Survey of India or DRDO do not make those as Army organisations and their tasks as Army tasks. If SF soldiers are employed otherwise it is due to their specific expertise.

Anti terrorist operations for Indian Army are also confined to bordering states where terrorism has larger defense dimensions otherwise that is an internal security responsibility meant for Police.

Providing an ADC to COAS from SF along with some SF personnel is of course an internal job of the Army and it would be better for the "community" to focus on task allotted rather than dictate what task should be allotted to them. SF can not and may not dictate that. That attitude and feeling will be absolutely fetal in the way of their existence and employment. Misbehaving with the then Col Malik (later Gen Malik, the ex COAS), the then Director of of an MO Section responsible for Out of Area Contingencies during one of outside mission by SF officers simply because the then Col Malik was not an SF officer was a bad culture and bad precedence. That clearly is not the way any one in defense forces can ever function. If that is SF culture or Community feeling as someone put it down then the earlier it is shed the better. There is no place for an insubordinate and rebel culture amongst any SF anywhere. The culture of being and feeling different or special, a cut above others does not mean being over others. Any such man any such feelings must be the first one to be cast away. The is no place for "Musko Valley Syndromes" and rebel attitude in the Army including their SF.

It would be better for COR of SF to speak to COAS who will be too happy to put some smart Gurkha hat clad khukri wielding soldiers on his cavalcade instead.

Let us not demean ourselves in indulging in such lowly stupid discussions.

I rest my case.

Actually no. You build a race track and continue practicing.

The rust comes from driving the car in second gear and forgetting it's capabilities or losing your edge at the high end of it's capabilities.

But enough of this analogy

10 heads for an eye – Operation Apache

Date: July 7, 2019Author: Shivam

This is the story of India’s response to an inhuman act, this story is here to make people aware about that anyone who will try to disturb the peace of this nation will pay the price they will never forget. This operation was never made public because whatever the 9th Battalion of Parachute Regiment also known as 9 Para SF did will leave you with answers to many questions.

Year 2001

Bakarwal is a peaceful community who spend their life shepherding and goatherding, they are mainly based at Pir Panjal and Himalayan mountain ranges. These people are also known as Gujjars of Kashmir.

In 2001 the insurgency was at its peak and so does the counter insurgency operations of Indian Army. Intrusions and elimination of intruders became a common thing for army. Attempts after attempts were bitting dust because the Indian Army was too vigile to be defeated. That’s where Pakistanis did what they do after every defeat they either kill innocents or attack from back. This time they crossed the , they were continuously intruding a sector close to LOC, were killing the Bakarwals, beheading them and stealing their animals. The Gujjars reached army for the help and 9 Para got the opportunity to avenge the attacks. The CO of 9 himself took charge to teach pakis a good and an unforgettable lesson.

Operation Apache was a company level operation of 9 Para SF started from a LOC hugging sector. It is believed that the operation was so secret that even the government doesn’t know about it. The operation was special and so critical that the CO of battalion of that time was leading the operation. This was one of the major operation to restore peace for the farlanders of Kashmir.

19 November 2001

Operation Apache begins, in pitch dark night around 70 men of 9 Para SF crossed the LC. The target was intentionally choosed to be an area which is just a kilometer away from one of the biggest brigade of Pakistani Army. 9 Para surprised the bastards and by mere presence of that size of force pakis pissed and shit in their pants. Lt. A and Lt. N just cleared the life soaking probation and now they are witnessing why 9 is taken by enemy on high regards. Pakistanis recognized 9 by the very first sight. 9 confirm the identity of enemy and the masaccare begun. This time the mountain rats showed up on their faces and started picking heads one by one, no one was spared and it was happening just around the corner of Pakistani brigade.

In between the operation a 6 feet 4 inch pakistani pathan soldier tried to kill an operative by stabbing him in the back but he was silenced within a second. The operative still got some injury but retreat wasn’t an option that night, he was treated right there by medics and the operation stayed on, with the level of blood spilled that night 9 sent a clear message to the neighbors that there are people on the opposite side of the border who knows how to keep warm relations with neighbors.

One of the purest forms of Special Operations

1971. Sheikh Mujibur Rehman in East Pakistan has just won an electoral mandate to become the prime minister of Pakistan. Accustomed to treating the eastern wing of the country as a colony, the ruling disposition in West Pakistan is not pleased, and launches a genocide against the residents of East Pakistan, flooding India with lakhs of refugees. With the violence in East Pakistan reaching a crescendo, the Indian government is faced with a difficult option: remain a mute spectator to the savagery on its eastern borders, or take action and go to war against its western neighbour. Thus was born Naval Commando Operation (X) - comprising Indian navy officers and divers, eight deserters from a Pakistani submarine and a ragtag bunch of Bengali youth fleeing the genocide - one of India's largest clandestine operations, meant to destabilize the West Pakistani efforts to bring East Pakistan to its knees. Revealed for the very first time, here is the explosive authentic account of the guerrilla operation that went for the maritime jugular of Pakistan, and facilitated the birth of Bangladesh.
