where does it say he did it intentionally? weapon handling is not Childs play
A paratrooper is expected to dismantle, examine and assemble weapon in under a minute. Twitch second reaction times and response means weapon handling must be perfect.

This was suicide plain and simple.

Paratroopers are infantry like the rest of the Infantry Battalions.
So they are also rotated amongst RR.

It's not their, but the SF use in COIN ops which is out of place.
seems to be a wasteful use of resources. paratroopers, by their namesake, should be used for operations behind enemy lines.

Accidental discharge happens only with poorly maintained guns. Even hobby shooters are careful about firearm safety let alone a Tier 1 unit.

This was a suicide. Plain and simple.

MI must filter information to families and operators. Stupid domestic issues and PTSD are costing us valuable and skilled operators.

Sure enough. Shock action is their forte.

But possibly the rationale is to keep their skills up in close combat.

A paratrooper is essentially shock troops like US Rangers. Para SF is more like Green Berets.
If you are doing a like for Like comparison based on Orbat the

Paras = 82Airborne ;
SFF = US Army Rangers
SF = US Army SF

In reality our SF would be halfway between Rangers and USASF primarily because of Philosophy, Orientation, Technology and Training.

What's the main difference in training between Special Group and SF?

So, we have no unit in IA comparable to CAG/Delta?

pound for pound no.

SG/Vikas comes closest but with no permanent cadre no/ permanent command the structure / true potential will always be lost

Also just as an FYI CAG on it's on is useless. CAG / DEvgru work with the night stalkers and ISA and a number of other critical tier I support units that make them so capable. JSOC is one move breathing organinisim that took over a 2.5 decades to perfect and develop.

I am still holding out high hopes for our SOD

Training has to do with mission profile. SG spends more time training warriors as individuals and 2 man teams and SF trains for small unit operations. SG spends a lot of time UC and learn alot of additional skills such as SIE and picking locks etc etc etc which would form only minor concentrations in SF

Just look at the scope and ability of UK SOF to comment and make proposals for new initiatives and national strategic policy .

We have just a long long way to go
I heard a nice quote in a video recently. I am gonna use it as often as I can...

“Seventy years after the U.S declared independance it’s response to the stresses of modernisation was civil war, our rather ramshackled political system has kept us from that. i think that is an achievement.” - Suman bery
