We have...we already are stopping imports from china on the APIs and are manufacturing it in India. GOvt is fully behind our pharama industries..

THis should have been done yesterday..but sometimes..we need incidents like this to cut through the red tape...FASTER minus the political bitching.

The phase out on dependency is a gradual process. Its logical that it can only be done over a period of time taking into account a lot of factors that include the profitability and proximity to certain raw material and resources.
So...some dependency is kept alive and some are culled as and when a chance strikes and when our industry is confident enough to be competitive in that area

There are three areas: agriculture, pharmaceuticals and military industrial complex where India needs to be absolutely independent. India is self reliant in agriculture. With little bit of efforts, India can become self reliant in pharmaceuticals. Military industrial complex will require some work; India has to be creative about this one.

Yep, that API effort needs to be accelerated. Food, weapons and medicines are vital for any nation's survival. Therefore India needs to produce these three items in India. I cannot believe Congress/UPA was so stupid to not have realized this.

All foreign inward remittances come through the gormint. Even non-banking third party apps like Paypal have to convert the money into rupee within 24 hours of remittance. Every remittance needs to have a PAN card and purpose code attached to it and needs to convert it to local currency before it reaches the recipient so there's no way to hold foreign currency in an Indian bank account.

Yes - though I believe exporters and perhaps citizens (?) are permitted to have foreign bank accounts. So they can keep surplus liquid assets in foreign currency if they so choose (?)

It will be a current account and not a saving account. The fine print is that a saving account is required to give you some interest in exchange for your savings. A current account of this nature does not yield any interest.

PS : That way, even Forex traders can hold interest-free foreign currency in their Dmat account.

Well!! we dont buy F35 because of various reasons..
its not just the purchase...its that we have to sustain a whole ecosystem too.
people who understand the basic of defense purchases understand the whole scenario of it.

We are super VIP because
1) we can afford it
2) We are creating a TECHNICAL ASYMMETRY with our enemies and foes.
3) We always keep the edge over our enemies.

For example
We buy missiles, we integrate every kind of missile from every country into our airforce or navy or army.. that means..it could be a Russian SU flying but doesnt necessarily mean that its a Russian missile that we will be firing at the enemies... the enemy buggers wont know what hit them.

so..whatever we do with our big purchases has big technical and logistical understanding. We will continue to buy even though we will be producing a lot in the coming years. Doesnt mean the ones we manufacture are not inferior, because thats how we like to play this game.
Its not weapons purchase..its also international relations and reach..

I hope India liberalizes tourist visas for Chinese travelers because we have a pest infestation here and Chinese people are nature's best pest control mechanism. :biggrin2:
