General Director of the “Uralvagonzavod” corporation Oleg Sienko and the CEO of the Indian company Bharat Forge Kalyani of the Kalyani Group signed a memorandum of understanding providing for the establishment of the co-production of self-propelled artillery units (SAU) in India. “Our Indian partners have extensive experience in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence. We have extensive experience and expertise as part of creation of self-propelled artillery. We plan to gradually transfer the documentation as part of the Make in India program to jointly produce the installation “- said General Director of Uralvagonzavod. He also noted that the assembly line will be the first stage of cooperation to create the SAU, whose production is now carried out on the “Uraltransmash” (part of “Uralvagonzavod” corporation). The Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov and his Indian colleague Nirmala Sitharaman were present during the signing of the document. Technical cooperation between the two countries was planned to be developed in the framework of the Make in India program, providing for the creation of modern industries in India for various military and civilian equipment. The Russian 2S19 self-propelled guns “MSTA-S” production “Uraltransmash” and South Korean K9 Thunder Samsung Techwin Company are competing as part of the ongoing tender for the purchase of self-propelled artillery of the Armed Forces of India. In total, India intends to spend $ 2.4 billion for the purchase of 814 artillery systems in the next 10 years, 100 of which will be purchased abroad (with 50 of them assembled in India), and the rest are to be manufactured in India.

competition with vajra ? how ?

we hv already selected it . isn't it ?
I don't think its competition with K-9 Vajra

The article specifically mentions the following:
"for the purchase of 814 artillery systems in the next 10 years, 100 of which will be purchased abroad (with 50 of them assembled in India), and the rest are to be manufactured in India."

Then goes on to show the tracked MSTA.

Typical of that site.

But we know that 814 systems are for Mounted Arty.

Coincidently MSTA has a version for mounted arty MSTA-K. And the competition will be with Nexter Caesar, Archer, Tata-Denel 155 mm et al. Bharat Forge was in this category and they had not announced their partners.

This may be it:

Wiki says:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2S19_Msta#Variants
  • 2S19M1-155 (2006) - 155mm export version of the 2S19M1, fitted with an L/52 gun with a range of 40+ km.
  • 2S27 "Msta-K" - Wheeled variant (K = kolyosnij), based on a 8x8 truck chassis. There were several different prototypes, including one based on a KrAZ-ChR-3130 and two based on the Ural-5323 (with and without turret).
Bharat Forge may well bring in a highly modified version of the MSTA-K. One with 155 mm instead of 152 mm and 52 Cal. The order size is certainly worth a whole new product. I would love it if the truck is sourced from TATA.

the MSTA-K looks intersting indeed, the Chassis won't come from TATA or AL though, I belive this will be mounted on a Chassis from the Indian Subsidiary of KAMAZ.
looks like a mean machine

Is the 19th century term "Mounted" artillery in use now a days at all? It's SP all over.
