Found in DEFEXPO 2012 thread... this is Arjun turret ammuniton storage behind loader station and... my god, they claim that this is safe? It is not even isolated from crew compartment by blast doors or something like that. Similiar ammunition racks can be found on NATO 1st and 2nd generation tanks like M48, M60, Centurion or Leopard 1... I suppose that even good old M4A3(76)W with wet ammo storage would be less vurnable to ammo cook off than this design solution. Even T-90S will be safer with ammunition only in autoloader that is placed much lower and from top covered by steel plate.

Defence Expo 2012. Arjun and T-90, pictures from insides.

One of pictures it is barely visible hull magazine, same situation as in case of turret, not isolated ammo racks (similiar to Leopard 2). Arjun definetly is not safer than T-90S in case of ammo cook off.

Damian,

Last time i posted pictures of a Arjun interior, in which the live ammo were kept in pressurized container bins, Also how you will explain blast door on turret roof, this tank showed in expo was not a service one but a prototype..

Ok, but how certain is that, this specific vehicle was a prototype? Do we have any pictures from active unit of Arjun MBT interior? This would clear any doubts.

BTW, why pressurized containers? This also have no sence when You put blow off panel over ammunition magazine. Pressurized container means that each round is separated from another one, so how pressure from eventuall cook off is released outside via blow off panel?

This is photo from factory, it actually shows same design of turret ammunition storage as seen on DEFEXPO 2012 photos.

It seems that pressurized might be only ammunition storage in hull, while turret ammunition storage is not only not isolated, but also not pressurized.

There was no unit or regimental tag over the vehicle, but DRDO tag..

I dont know abt that never say, During last Expo the Arjun was there from a Army Unit not DRDO, but the crew did not allowed people to get in..

Still it seems that turret ammo racks are not isolated and are not pressurized ammo bins either. Hull ammo racks looks like pressurized ammo bins tough.

It's already halfway through 2013... any indication that Armata will be released this year??
No, and also will not be presented for general public, only closed static presentation for VIP's.

"Armata": the likely appearance of prospective Russian tank

Everything related to the perspective of the main tank on the heavy combat unified platform, the T-14 "Armata" - a big secret. No photo in secret facility. But interest in the new development of the Ural Heavy Machinery KB so high that we decided to show the tank, which no one has seen.

Independent military analyst Alex Khlopotov thoroughly studied all that has been written about the "Armata" . Based on his research, 3D-designers Artem Trigubchak and Mikhail Rozanov tried to present the likely appearance of the newest Russian tank.

Looks like a Fan boy art to me , Armata will more likely resemble similar to T-95 Tank ..... they dont have to reinvent the wheel as most work has been done on T-95 what will change is more modern electronics fcs armour etc but conceptually the T-95 and Armata are peers with latter having 125 mm MG

It isn't uncommon for 3d artists to make pictures of prospective pieces of military equipment that have yet to be revealed.

Russia's Next Generation Battle Tank To Be Unveiled This Year
Prototypes of Russia's latest Main Battle Tank, the Armata will be revealed to select officials at an arms expo in September, according to Ria Novosti.
The show is probably the 9th edition of the Nizhny Tagil State Demonstration and Exhibition Centre of Armament and Military Exuipment also known RAE 2013.
Reportedly in the pipeline since 1995, it was only in 2005 that the Russians would officially confirm the project without divulging any information. The tank was due to be introduced in 2009, but was perpetually delayed. The Russian government terminated its involvement in the project in 2010 and withdrew all funding.
The tank is designed to separate the crew from incoming fire by a special capsule, since protecting the crew is a high priority. The new tank will have new electronic equipment and the crew will be protected by internal turret and will feature a remotely controlled gun and fully automated loading, as well as a separate crew compartment made from composite materials and protected by multilayered armor.

Russia to Start Producing New Main Battle Tank in 2016 | Defense | RIA Novosti
The official said three Armata prototypes were currently being tested, and production of the tank would start even before the end of the R&D work.

The Armata is designed as a modular universal combat platform that could be used as a basis for a variety of combat vehicles, including fire support, mine clearing, heavy flame throwing and bridge laying vehicles, according to Defense Ministry officials.

Although the new tank remains top-secret, Uralvagonzavod has said that its design incorporates elements seen in other projects, including Object 195 and Black Eagle.

It will also reportedly feature a remotely controlled gun and fully automated loading, as well as a separate crew compartment made from composite materials and protected by multilayered armor.

Could this be why the army is resisting the arjun?Considering that a couple of thousand T-72s will need replacement in the near future.

A sneak peak of new 2S35 "Koalitsia-SV" self propelled howitzer which is said to be based on "Armata" heavy tracked modular platform.

And here are photos of 2S35 model, you can see some similarities on the real thing and models front hull.

Russia's new Armata tank on Army 2015 shopping list

Russian troops are receiving beta versions of a future armored tracked platform that could usher in the 5th generation conventional land tank, heavy APC, artillery and missile launcher and possibly fully robotic assault armored vehicle.
The exact characteristics and appearance of the platform remain classified, though this might soon change as the new vehicles are on the verge of taking part in the Victory Day Parade on Red Square, May 9 this year.
The platform's chief tank (T-14) sports an unmanned remotely controlled turret armed with a brand new 125 mm 2A82-1M smoothbore cannon. Its muzzle energy is greater than one of the world's previously considered best cannons: the German Leopard-2 Rheinmetall 120 mm gun.
More details at original article.

Got to admit this is a mean looking machine. Looks quite blind though.
I count at least 3 thermal/IR imagers/cameras.
