There’s no need to bring Sri Lanka into India, already Tamil brothers and sisters in our country are angry over Sri Lankans and it would be an unimaginable situation if ever it decides to join India.

national consciousness of Srilanka has a history of centuries and deep roots . I doubt people ll want to be part of india . When people dont want to be part your country they become burden and its one way street .. You cant let them go as it cld give rise to larger problems in a diverse country like ours ... Let there be something like EU first as we move forward .

why is this point even coming up, and where is it coming from?
It's silly and very counterproductive. These kind of statements only serve to upset people, especially ones who have for long harbored concerns on Indian intentions and are always suspicious of our motive.

We must help Sri Lanka as much as we can but its neither desirable nor sensible to make statements of joining with India. They are in serious trouble, let's not unnecessarily muddy the waters with silly talk.

Why not? I am just curious. I am not talking about military takeover.
freethinking is fine, but there has to be some real world basis, for it to become a persistent thought.
when was the last time a sovereign nation merged into another nation willingly, which were never historically united in the first place?

It’s coming up because , a weakened Sri Lanka can be easily influenced by other countries, creating a strategic vulnerability with India
SL has not weakened, it is just facing temporary cashflow issues. it's institutions are working just fine.
moreover they have been thru worse in the past, they handled it better than India ever did in it's independent history.

It has external liabilities and China ready to seize assets. The land is the collateral for the loans, creating a huge vulnerability for India. We should offer them lots of investment and request an instrument of accession to India. I would personally invest in the Island if this happens.

We are not really known for "real world basis" for our grandiose thoughts. People keep talking about Akhand Bharat without factoring in the fact that it would necessarily mean taking in some 400 million Muslims. Even PoK is a nightmare. Some really take the idea of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam too seriously.....

Man there is a difference between willingness & compulsion.

We can't expect a plebiscite in Sri Lanka to join India.

If we would control their ports, their strategic oil reserves, if we have a sizable stake in their SEZ. Control majority of their supplies. They would indirectly be our vassal state. And they would be compelled to share their military & naval bases with us.

If we don't do it China would definitely do it. And they are already ahead of us in this game. We need to catch up.
