I agree keeping china out is important and we can't allow a cuba like situation.

But we don't need our direct presence there.
Maybe a listening post or sensors at most.

Deploying offensive hardware and men is not necessary.
Do you want to give fodder to anti india politics there?
Anti-India politics is still there even though we don't have a direct military presence in Sri Lanka. If India doesn't have a direct military engagement with the civilian population I don't think there will be a significant backlash.

An expansion of the Trilateral Secretariat of India, Sri Lanka & Maldives could be used as a medium for full time military deployment of Indian assets in Sri Lanka. Establishing India as a net security provider for these Island nations.

Our position will be strengthened by the billions of dollars of credit line that India has provided over these years.

Where is this pipe dream of lankans wanting to merge with us come from?

Remember we faced a similar economic collapse in 1991? Indian foreign exchange reserve could have barely financed three weeks' worth of imports. Meanwhile, the government came close to defaulting on its own financial obligations.

Did we apply for merger with any saviour country?

You are right.

Sri Lankan landmarks are not mentioned in Vishnu Purana when discussing extent of bharat.

@FalconSlayers

I forgot to mention that vishnu Purana is dated anywhere from 700 BCE to 900 CE by different scholars.

Time is important as at one time, ie rigvedic times, Bharat was just one tribe in sapta sindhu and gradually increased its civilisational sphere with time.

Maybe @asaffronladoftherisingsun can shed more light on this and the dating of Vishnu Purana.

Lankans will never want to join India. And we already have a lot of bankrupt states to look after. We don't need another liability.

We just want full military access to their naval bases to thwart any significant Chinese presence in the vicinity of India.

We can achieve it by turning Sri Lanka into an Indian Protectorate will full autonomy of it's own.

India has resources and will. We have neither.

But given a proper leadership I think we could even surpass India. We were ahead of India in 60s. Then came the socialist dream.

We went to IMF only once, our humsaya mulq isn’t that lucky to get his job done in one bailout.

We were ahead of Singapore and Korea even. Socialism set us back centuries.
Some sociojeets inside India still have delusions of this ideology being sensible, hope one day we reduce socialism and full blown capitalism with basic education and healthcare being free. We need to reduce the dependency of the people on government schemes.

In 2019, Shekhar Gupta had mocked India as just another 3rd world economy with half the per capita income of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka in total economic crisis

They have run out of food, fuel, everything

What will you say now Shekhar Gupta?
Many places i have travelled I see they have higher per capita and better quality of life than in India. It pains me to see fellow India lagging back namely human capital, so many brilliant mind lost due to inadequate ecosystem.

However, all these places seems to be living beyond their means, that is borrowed times and at any moment this illusion could collapse. So question remains hardworking and solid foundation while it may be slow it is pre requisite for long term and sustainable success.

We are already a security provider in Maldives.
We have intervened there in the past.

Sri lankan leadership won't trust us because of ltte-ipkf fiasco and our own domestic compulsions wrt tamil minorities there.
It's just 10 years since the LTTE chapter was closed, thus the wounds are still raw.

Need to first create the environment where india can be seen as a trusted neighbour with whom ordinary sri lankan will desire collaboration.

India has archaic policies still. I think India should drop them and attain the flank speed.

So Sri Lanka goes to sh*te again. Wonder who a Sri Lanka in ruin hurts and who it favors?

True , but luckily we have shed socialism crap. Now mantra should be PRIVATISE PRIVATISE.
Let the entrepreneur India increase its speed.
After 30 big hungry greedy people have eaten their 100 pizzas, they begin looking around for more. How long until they realize the Indian guy sitting in the corner with 4 pizzas now has all the pizza? Greedy man, "I am still hungry. He has all the pizza, that is not fair." Perhaps when they take they will just say they are borrowing some pizza.
