I don't see any reason for such back door deals not happening behind the scenes. We need credit guarantee for our loans. They can either pay back in cash or equity.

I said that India should help Lanka by taking land for our projects. Lanka shouldn't get a free lunch.

That's vastly different from annexing Lanka which some posters and Twitter warriors are suggesting.

Outright annexation of another country is not something Indians have ever thought about in the last 75 years of modern existence. Its better to create a Bharatiya federation of independent states who have separate Govts but are all intricately connected to India. We should first implement open borders policy for these littoral countries lying on the outer rim of Bharat.

Takeover of Maldives should be the beginning. That island nation has done more harm than good and will soon become Pakistani proxy if not taken over now.

Bhutan needed to be arm twisted time to time with full economic control by India.

Meh.. the only scenario where sri Lanka signs instrument of accession is beneficial to us if they have plebiscite and merger wins with 70 % vote .
Can add their languages to our list of official ones .
But no Autonomous territory bs .. no special articles nothing. Let them make changes as per the state list. Let them accept all this with plebiscite. Anything less and we will have to deal with a large insurgency and the whole project will blow up in our face .
Don't forget we will have to assume their debt that means paying lots of money to China
