Hasn’t the patent for the AR15 design lapsed? They only need to make cosmetic changes and ensure furniture like stock n all are either unique or get a license for them, right?

For AR-15 yes even for ak it doesn't matter but the cosmetic changes aren't just that easy either else we wouldn't be buying FAB defense upgraded AKs (offcourse kickback is there too)

Specially right now they might be simply importing and assembling for trials unless big order comes their way. It takes a huge investment to bring those machinery and train people to do here... And unless you know you are getting a big order what's the point ?

I think we should simply opt for caracal carbine or sig to be manufactured in Amethi.

Trichy should be provided with Ak 15 to copy after we buy some off the shelf. That will literally solve all our requirement in small arms as ofb starts providing different iteration of it.

Choosing between Sig and Caracal.
I would definitely go for the SIG if it were upto me (it looks fine as phok)
But don't know if OFB has the necessary technology to manufacture the rattlers

Obviously if Sig partners with them they’ll have to provide the tooling and tech knowledge.

Ammo sourcing is difficult or Magpul, LMT and other American coolies aren’t getting delivered due to Wuhan Virus?

Can’t they start testing with OFB made 5.56 NATO ammo atleast until proper ammo they desire is available instead of just waiting?
Also can’t they use their partnership with CBC to their advantage to secure ammo ASAP?

It’s not about NATO ammo, but Magpul, LMT, TWS in USA are not sending them parts for their indigenous IPR rifle.

I just saw we are buying ak 103 for 43 k around off the shelf that's a good deal though arsenal is providing same for less than 35 k .

In any case Trichy offered the rifle for 80k that too with shoddy work .they have improved now and reduced the price but still need more work to do. This off the shelf deal I guess is an end to ak 203 make in India deal.

Yes you are right AR 10 derivative it is ... They produce ak 103 too it's pof/pk 21 apart from what they purchased from Russia in batches.

They have been license producing G3 and rheinmettal machine guns etc too for decades.
